Try one of those plastic snakes first, like "Cobra Hair Snake" or similar. Push it down the drain, then jiggle it while gently pulling up. After a couple shakes it should come back up and look gross. No risk of drain damage or just moving the clog further down the pipe.
For a shower drain honestly a plunger has usually been enough for me.

The crystals I feel work way better than these gels. A bottle lasts me several clogs.

They go by Zep Crystal Heat and Drano Crystals

+1. These drain cleaner gels would unclog the bathroom sink for a few months then it'd start backing up again. Removed the trap and used a $1 snake w/hooks to fish all the hair and gunk out. No backups since then.

Check the drain cleaner comparison videos on YouTube. Almost none of them work effectively. A couple may work, but they are very dangerous for regular people to use.
