How does this compare to the GMK-Tec that commonly goes on sale for $320? Looks like the main difference is the processor and ram (DDR4 vs DDR5). Is it worth $140 more?

Processor Brand: AMD
Processor Speed: MAX4.5GHz 8C/16T, 4 MB L2 Cache/16 MB L3 Cache;TDP 10-35W

The 8745hs in this post is far more powerful. Besides the RAM you pointed out, the CPU and GPU are solid for even AAA gaming at low settings. Plus it's got an oculink port, so you can add a video card with a dock.

I would be worried if I didn't have a cheap Chinese IP camera at my front door. The "s" in IoT stands for security :yay:

Honestly really competitive pricing. The only real differences between this and the GMKtec k8 plus are 8745 vs 8845 ( GMKtec advantage in multicore ), and the dual USB 4.0 on the GMKtec (one here). Phenomenal value honestly

The Ryzen 7 8745HS is a China-only Hawk Point family chip that never received an official launch... There is no NPU here.
As an APU meant for use within China, this Ryzen 7 should be fully compliant with the Chinese government-approved cryptography standards.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD...248.0.html

Does anyone know how drivers work for this? Being that is for Chinese markets only and does not show up on AMD's (American) website, will it be a problem getting graphics driver updates?

I'm curious about that as well. I ended up getting this one for $300 during prime days and it has the same. https://a.co/d/bRIHV3w

Note that 5825U is a Ryzen 2 CPU. This is a Ryzen 4 chip. There is a valley in difference between the two.

This chip also has the very good 780m GPU that is good enough for any e-sport type gaming/emulation.

This APU is equivalent to a 7840/7940/8840/8845/8945. The NPU is effectively useless as this is largely the difference between this China only variant and the 8000 series with the NPU.

This is a very good deal if you have no plans to get more RAM or SSD space in the near term. If you want the NPU and 200 mhz more, you can get the AOOSTAR GEM12 Pro Max (how original the naming), with the 8845HS for $499 everyday.

Oculink is a game changer. Just as reliable as USB (but you cannot hotswap except for some one-off scenarios, like with Lenovo), but eGPU is no longer some convoluted and overpriced niche product. I paid $150 for a Oculink dock and decent PSU, and I can connect my 3090 to one of these without issue. At least with ampere, there is no degredation of performance between oculink and native x16.

Overkill for a Minecraft LAN server? (friends and family only; ~5 players at any given time)

Our current one chugs now that we've all got Elytra; rendering new areas is so slow it's no longer fun to explore. Would pay this price to solve that.
