are these DIY friendly, or do I need a vacuum pump and all that jazz?

Considering one of these for a 500 square-foot bedroom apartment

Also curious how hard it is to run this and how large that outside unit

I bought their 1 zone 24k BTU. Been using for 1.5 months and still going strong. Got it for $648 no taxes. Yes, you'll have to get a vacuum (autozone free rental) and then buy 5/16 adapter off amazon for a few bucks. Also get urself a gauge. But it's not that challenging to do. Hardest part is probably running electrical wiring. Or even drilling a hole through your wall (to ensure you aren't hitting any studs). Good luck all!

Eeeh. I live in northern Michigan and it does get below 5F, but not too often. Our winters are long and dark. 10-15F is a regular You'd never rely on a unit like this to keep your place warm, at least not as a primary source. I have 3 Yitahome units (2x 12K and an 18k) they work surprisingly well during the winter and greatly reduced our propane and electric usage. They heat more efficiently than traditional electric space heaters and reduced my overall utility bills while keeping the house at a very comfortable temperature- using the auto function and have not touched them in 10 months. I bought them for the cooling, they turned into an essential daily use item in our household.
