Note that the 3A current limit for Power Delivery means this won't support Samsung's 45W Super Fast Charging regardless of the peak power rating (45W SFC 2.0 requiring over 3A PPS support).

Otherwise, this is a versatile power adapter for fast charging PPS available devices, but probably represents a poor value even at this sale price relative to third party adapters (such as Belkin or Insignia). Of course, if you have a very specific need for the wider PPS voltage ranges supported this could be one of the few options (though I personally struggle to recall any devices making use of PPS voltage ranges above 16V).

Hi Jon, As noted in the o.p. and in the video the Google 45 watt with 21 volt PPS profile satisfies needs not provided by most other ac adapters. (1) for charging Pixel 9 Pro Plus XL at its maximum 37 watt rate requires 21V PPS. Unlike Samsung an E-marked cable is not required for high wattage charging of devices which can utilize 21V PPS. . More models and brands are likely to employ 21V PPS for the cabling advantage,

(2) Best in class for efficiency at idle and at low demand such as with magnetic stands watches and ear buds. (3) Voltage stability (4) Thermal stability, cool running at continuous full load.. (5) reliability and longevity. Users who require all of these characteristics do not have any lower cost options. It's a given that mainstream users will feel that they are better served by dual ports and smaller size even if these lack the above characteristics..

the S25+ and S25U should though. In the past to use Super Fast charging 2.0 (45W) charging you had to use a 5A cable to get the full speed. This was because the phone was only able to use a 10V 4.5A profile which required a 5A cable. The S25+ and S25 Ultra can utilise a 15V 3A profile to get 45W charging. So that means pretty much any USB PD cable and brick that outputs 45W will work. No need to check if it supports PPS or if the cable is 5A.

Technical notes: 9 volts at 5 amps is required for Samsung Super Fast 2.0 charging. For travel many do not carry the bulky 5 amp E-marked cable. They use standard 3 amp cables and charge with SFC 1.0 at 25 watts maximum.

That's why Google engineered a better solution eliminating the need for special high amp cables. By increasing the voltage to 21 volts only a standard 3 amp cable is required. So this is a case of what the product has rather than what it does not have by design.

Apple doesn't sell charges built to Samsung's odd requirements. Calling out Google for doing the same is silly. Samsung users can still charge at SFC 1.0.

If reliability, durability, build quality, stable output and low operating temperature.are factors for me then I will gladly pay $9 more for a 10 year life. That's how long my Google home speaker adapters have been going 24/7 on a grid with daily surges.

For the benefit of other Pixel 9 Pro XL users any PPS charger which does 21 volts @ 2 amps is all that is required to enjoy the maximum 37 watt rate. That's 12 watts faster than Samsung using a standard 3 amp cable. The Otterbox 60 watt Premium Pro with 21V PPS is charging my P9PXL at the full 37 watt rate. Helluva great deal at $10 but only if it lasts three years and doesn't quit when I need it most.

Thank you for the heads-up on the change to the S25+ and S25U no longer requiring a 5 amp cable or PPS to reach the 45 watts charge rate. However the advantages of PPS programmable power supply remain so I will not consider buying any adapter without PPS which was adopted from Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4+ and shown to reduce battery temperature and to extend battery life.

QC is native to Snapdragon SOS used in Galaxy for years. Beginning with S8 or S9 Samsung added compatibility with power delivery but I made sure to use QC4+ and later PPS which has greatly extended battery life for me by keeping the battery temperature down. Feedback allows the device to continually call for precise voltage and amperage adjustments critical for optimal charging of Li-ion instead of leaping from 5 to 9 to 15 volts. Original PD should only be used when a PPS isn't available.

I suspect that 21V PPS is easier on the battery than 15V 3A power delivery however it is possible that flagship phones now have better internal control. The thing is that stepping down volts internally creates heat.

I'll need to catch up on these updates, thanks! The newest model I own is the S24+ so I guess I'm stuck with my 5A cables.

Thank you for clarifying the unique requirements for the Pixel 9 Pro Plus XL to reach that 37W rate. I'm guessing that's pretty much it, or is anyone aware of any other devices leveraging a higher-voltage PPS range?

You can just get a charger that has the PPS range for 15-21V....

The PPS range on my go-to Insignia 45W charger stops at 16V.The PPS range on my Samsung SFC chargers are limited to 20V (which one online analysis suggests the Pixel 9 XL Pro will limit to 25W charging upon detection vs a 21V limit).

I used to be aggrieved by Samsung's take on branding PPS as SFC. However, the particular quirks of Google's choices are may create more confusion than SFC 1.0 and 2.0 ever did.
