Thanks. Planning on going a solo camping trip for the first time. This is exactly what I was looking for. I think these are the other things I'll need to take:

Tent
Ground tarp/footprint (under the tent)
Sleeping bag
Sleeping pad or air mattress
Pillow (camp or inflatable)

I have never gone camping and had a sleeping bag from a recent deal and really wanted to do something. The place I'm going to has decent weather right now, maybe a light shower is possible. We're talking 75/55 degree weather. I think this tent should suffice for a single night on a maintained camp ground, just to get my feet wet.

Walmart shouldn't call this a lightweight tent at almost 6 lbs. It is also OOS online and must be picked up from a B&M location. OP should add that to the description.

These suck. They were normally $25 a year ago.

There is no ventilation with the rainfly on.

Also, a support rod sheared on mine due to a manufacturing defect (insufficient rod insertion where glued into the quickconnect).

Also, like most tents, comfortable people capacity is actually half the rated.
So, actually, 1.5 persons will fit non-cramped into this 3 person tent. (1 adult and a small child)

This is the perfect tent to try camping with and see if you like it enough to invest in a decent one. NOT for someone who already camps.

How with this be for an indoor tent in a grid down situation in the cold of winter? Price seems right. Should I look for a heavier one?

I have two of these. Fine for car camping in fair weather. They will fit a queen air mattress with a little room on the side so two people can sleep comfortably. Should have a stuff sack instead of that awful zippered bag but hey they are cheap so whatever.

Maybe if your goal is to decide you don't like camping.

Let's be honest, this is a disposable tent to use one time and toss.

Man, people around here would have been so upset with what we camped under in the '90s.
it's ok if your tent is heavy or doesn't have cutting edge ventilation.

I have and used this exact tent. Both in Yosemite and Sequoia. Didn't want to go through the trouble of letting it dry out or repacking it properly so I just tossed it both times.

Pro tip - always divide the number that tents advertise in half.

As a counter point, I go camping 6-8 weekends a year (both car camping and backpacking), and I own a ton of different tents, but when I go car camping I just use a 4 person ozark trail tent and don't see a need to use anything more nice. Plenty of room for a full or queen size mattress, lots of headroom, and cheap.
Ventilation can be a tad lacking in the summer is the only real downside for me.

These tents really don't need a ground tarp. Also if it won't be too cold, just bring an air mattress with sheets and some blankets to see if you like camping first.Keep in mind that if you go when it starts getting into the 40s, you will get cold in an uninsulated matress/sleeping pad because the ground sucks heat out of you
