I have this router for 2 years now . First 2 years it was extremely stable at 160 mhz bit these days it is not ablen to maintain the 160 max bandwidth and keeps switching to 80 mhz thus dropping my laptop connection. Any suggestions on how to go back to 160mhz will be appreciated. I experimented with 80 mhz but if I want 1000Mbps network transfers I get that only in 160mhz.

I had a similar experience with 2 of these models. Both were good for a year or so but then the 2.4 band just stopped working entirely. ASUS support was equally bad - expecting me to pay shipping to RMA the router and leaving me w/o one until it was fixed.

Buy two of these or get the ROG Rapture GT6 2-pack deal? Which is better?

Try Merlin's firmware.

So I saw someone mention in reviews that you can create a separate IOT channel? Anyone have experience with that or using this router in general with a segregated IOT vlan? Does it work well for that? I have some IoT devices that only work with 2.4Ghz and looking for a router that can handle that well.

Amazing deal on an outstanding WiFi 6 router..I own one and use it as the primary with an AX68U as the node in an AI Mesh configuration..I personally prefer ASWRT firmware rather than Merlin, but its up to the user Smilie

I have the non-pro which doesn't do VLAN tagging. I have three AX86u APs with roaming assist enabled and -60 dbm for connection strength and balanced antenna output. All of the IOT things go to a guest network. I believe the pro version would allow you to bind that guest network to a dedicated VLAN for IP address segmentation as well. Overall it works well after tweaking with the above for my environment. However it was pretty common OOBE both on Stock and Merlin for smart light bulbs to drop.

Other thing you could do if you have a multi-node setup is just host the guest network on the main router. As I have dozens of clients and three floors connectivity between them wasn't enough for me in this layout.

Don't put the IOT things on a smart connect network where it mixes the 2.4Ghz / 5Ghz bands you'll be pulling your hair out due to bulb drops. Editing to say I'd actually turn off smart connect entirely.

i have a separate 2.4ghz IoT channel set up on my Asus RT-AC88U, only problem i have run into seems to be with Google home devices, especially with casting Spotify to speakers. I have assigned them to my normal 2.4ghz channel. All of my Govee, Kasa and Eufy devices work fine on the IoT channel i created though

I set 2.4G guest network as IOT. They are working fine. The new one only $152, why settle for the used return router.

I used to dabble in smart bulbs but a few years back started wiring Lutron switches and adding their lamp dimmers and smart plugs. I must say, with all devices communicating low frequency to the Hub, and then the Hub plugged right into my AX86U my home lighting all behaves so nicely now (Except for Nanoleaf Shapes haha).

This is the TUF-AX4200 on this thread for $79 used like new:
https://dealquestnow.online/f/18443395-78-78-used-like-new-asus-tuf-gaming-wifi-6-router-tuf-ax4200-at-amazon?p=178028806#post178028806

I plan on using stock firmware only, no custom firmware. I care most about reliability, little to no dropouts and consistent performance for at least 4 to 5 years
