I have this router. Runs great. Firmware gets updated often. Also the range is good. The phone app to set this up makes everything easy. Very customizable. I have had a good experience with mine. Very few dropped signals. Only complaint is that this style of router is ugly if you have to put it in your living room.

Anyone got an opinion on this or the ASUS RT-AX86U?

I have a few WiFi 6E devices that could support the RT-AXE7800 but I also see the RT-AX86U pro is supported by the Asuswrt-Merlin project.

I have a Asus TUF 6000, which is ok but I'm hoping this has a stronger signal.

I've had the ax86u for the past 7 years or so and never had any issues. I bought a second one on sale about 3 years ago as backup or secondary to extend as a mesh network. My primary one hasn't failed and the signal is strong enough where I don't need to boost signal (through 2 different house moves. It's just that good.

Maybe I'm just too poor and need to get a bigger house?

Somewhat off topic in this thread, but I also have the TUF AX6000 running wireless backhaul to an AX3000. Recent firmware updates have caused intermittent wifi issues as of late. 5Ghz signal seems to be very weak now. It also didn't seem to like having another router run the Merlin firmware for AImesh. DongKnows says this one is good for wired backhaul https://dongknows.com/asus-rt-axe...er-review/

Thanks for the feedback.I actually decided to pick up the RT-BE86U as the difference was about $60 for the used version over the RT-AX86U (BE86U 30% off vice AX86U 20% for prime day) and both are supported by the Merlin firmware. The 30% off for the BE-86U is also available on the new price.

I'd look at the size of your house as you aren't drowning in debt because you wanted something bigger lol.
