It's really a shame it took so long to hit this price. I would've bought it at launch. The iPad (A16) has hit this price with the same storage and longer OS support. I say that as a Google fan. They never should've bundled the speaker.

No one should consider this over an iPad at this price especially without the dock.

The CPU on this tablet is the same underpowered processor on the pixel 7 and already felt outdated when it was released

You do understand the price vs state of the art?
Not everyone can drop a grand on a cell phone, another grand on an iPad..
And chasing that, well you can always get the processor that's in the newest yada yada yada for $250-$300 plus, is going down a rabbit hole.
I mean if you have to play video games on your tablet, your phone, yeah, go for the most expensive, these companies are happy to take your money, in 6 months you will be trying to fill that rabbit hole, chasing that new processor.

With that said, the A9+ deal at Best Buy seems better if you don't care for software updates

Your statement makes little sense with "no one". Most people would at least be arguable. This is still a solid tablet with a good processor (not top-tier but you will notice the 60hz on both over any CPU upgrade) for people who already have a Pixel phone and want a similar experience on the tablet.

There isn't much a base level iPad does that this can't, and you miss out all of the Android specific benefits like better third party media apps, all your play store media being available, and some ecosystem stuff like notification sync. This price is a bit high sure, and the OS support is a bit short (they extended Pixel 6/7 so maybe this too?) but it's not a bad buy for $250 if you prefer Android as a massive upgrade over an A9+ under $200.

To be honest the best price for this was one year ago for $100 with iPad 6th gen trade in which smashes literally every other tablet in terms of value...it's still good here but not amazing. Same with the A9+ which is $20 from Metro and you could get an iPhone 13 for $75.

A word of praise for the magnetic speaker dock: I didn't think much of tablets when I bought this (with the dock), and I didn't expect to use it much, but the speaker dock means I use it every single day. It sits perfectly on my desk, under my monitors, with good-enough sound to make YouTube videos or music an absolute joy to have in the background as I work on my computer. I can't believe how much I use it, and it's entirely thanks to the magnetic speaker dock that 1) provides decent sound and 2) charges the tablet.

There might be faster or bigger tablets, but I've never had a use for tablets (outside of reading Kindle books) until the Pixel Tablet and its paired speaker dock. It breaks my heart that there won't be a Pixel Tablet 2, because this thing is just brilliant.

This is still way too expensive for what it is. If they included the speaker dock and a bluetooth keyboard, that would be more appropriate. Samsung offers much cheaper tablets than this with the same storage. Just not worth it.

had one without dock, sold it for less than this last year...it is pretty much just another tablet without the dock, cannot take calls from Pixel phones, does not have the seamless integration from Apple products. Maybe things changed, but definitely get it with the dock, otherwise the dock is $100 extra and you are missing ~40% of the functionalities.

Considering this was $249 @ Target just a few months ago, dock included, I think I'll hold off for the eventual fire sale.

This should be a $199 normal price tablet. The screen and CPU are both average and the edge is not comfortable to hold.

People who are upvoting this at $250 are idiots who don't own one already.

I got one of these about a year ago when the Google Store had a fantastic trade in for any iPad and this worked out to around $99 without the dock.
It has pretty good battery life, and the stand on the OEM case works very well. The speaker dock/charger thing is pretty awesome. It's a pretty good piece of hardware in my opinion. My house is in the Googlesphere, so it's useful to cast stuff from -- and to (when docked) -- and I use it as a little tv since we also have Youtube TV and use Plex a lot.

But man. The third party app development SUCKS. If you want to browse the web, or use your streaming apps, you're golden. But silly things -- like the app for my Vtech baby monitor -- are "not compatible" with this tablet (but ARE compatible with a tablet-based virtual machine???). How handy would it be to use a docked tablet as a baby monitor screen? Very handy. Works great on my phone though. Several other apps are just scaled up versions of their phone counterparts -- which ironically would be just fine with me for the baby monitor app since I run the video fullscreen, but ... here we are.

I'm also a Lego dork, and it works really good for the Powered Up and Builder app for instructions. However, because of the fixed length lens on the camera, its near impossible to scan the QR codes on the instruction manuals. I'm not sure who to blame for this -- Lego with their tiny, poor contrast QR code prints, or Google with their inability to focus on anything less than 8 feet away with the camera.

I have a feeling that Google is getting out of the tablet game once again, and I can't blame them, but then also ... I can.

Just want to say that I believe anyone can become rich... but you need to curb your spending and invest your savings.

Also, I believe this is the BEST VALUE tablet deal right now and I recommend over Samsung's A9+ deal for $150ish.

Thanks for your comments.
I will add that I bet your baby app did not work because it can not run on Android 16.
And google stated that they are getting out of the tablet game for the next few years... the problem was the PRICE they wanted for the specs that they are.
Basically the google tablet is a solid mid grade tablet... but they want how much??? with the doc. And that is the issue. Even if it had a OLED screen, I bet their sales would have doubled.

I agree that the price is just too high for what it is. I would say the normal price should be $299 and it should be on sale for $199.
The screen is IPS panel (unlike Samsung's A9+ which is TFT). It can do 500nits, so that is better then the low end tablets that can do between 300 - 400nits. And the CPU is the G2. Both the screen and chipset are NOT average, they are both above average.
And updates will be the best of any tablet out their.
And I always use a droop proof foam case, this helps to hold the tablet.
