There are pro and cons of ABS. Pro is that it is lighter than polycarbonate but also hard more surface hardness than polypropylene. The con of ABS is that its also the most brittle of the 3 plastics and so has gained a reputation of having luggage shatter when handled very roughly and if the plastic is thin. Polycarbonate is the most expensive and heaviest but also the most durable usually, and polypropylene is the lightest but also softest and shows wear the fastest.
Material is part of the consideration when looking a luggage but it also matters how thick/thin the manufacturer makes their plastic shells as while polycarbonate is the toughest and has good impact resistance there are still cases of some luggage made from them shattering when the shell is thin and handled particularly roughly.

For $45.89 this isn't a bad deal. Yes it's ABS, but for a carry-on where impact is minimal, it really doesn't have that much of an advantage over polycarbonate. Comparable Samsonite polycarbonate carry-ons are anywhere from 6.7 lbs to 7.5 lbs and twice the price. So, the weight difference is not that drastic. Given this is half the price of the lowest polycarbonate Samsonite carry-ons, it's a good deal for people who are strictly going to use it as a carry-on. Also, for those who drag their carry-ons through the streets in Europe or Asia, I think this is actually a better deal. Those roads are not easy on the wheels, even if it's a Samsonite. As far as warranty goes, AT is owned by Samsonite and offers the same 10-year limited warranty. Multiple colors are on sale, including the jade green, which looks good.

do you lose much "steer-ability" going from 8 wheels to 4? i've always gotten the el cheapo brands at Costco for a carry on, they always seem to have 8 wheels but still have a mind of their own rolling on less than perfect conditions.

The wheels on this are wide, probably wider than the double wheels. It glides well, better than "8-wheels" in my opinion
