I got the first Gen Scribe about a year ago. I still use my Oasis as my primary reader. The Scribe is great for writing on forms and signing pdfs. I also like doing puzzles on the Scribe. I imagine it would be great for a student. The transfer process is a bit wonky, and I wish Amazon would embrace existing cloud services like onedrive.

I'm not sure if this is YMMV, but if you use the promo code GETKINDLE15, you could get an additional 15% off. Not sure if this is combinable with the trade-in deal.

This is working though invitation only!

You should know these are impossible to return!
I got one then realized that I didn't actually have a real use for it (too heavy to use as an e reader and I already had an iPad workflow for docs) and so went to return it, and the ONLY option they offered was UPS pickup - not drop-off, PICKUP. And I had to give them a 3 day window during which they could pickup....
Needless to say I ended up eating the cost and giving it to my brother, but sadly tho I don't think he uses it much either

Anyone willing to share impressions of this as an ereader? My wife uses her kindle almost daily. We're about to have another kid so she's going to have a lot of down time for books but is it too heavy to one hand while she's got the baby in the other?Right now she's using a normal kindle with a pop socket after our toddler spiked her old oasis and broke the screen. She loved her oasis and id love to get her something else
Too heavy to use as a kindle and impossible to return on top.
I was so pissed about the return policy on these (UPS pickup ONLY with a 3 day window) I got a Kobo Clara after and it's been perfect

I have the Paperwhite and Scribe. I've always had the 6"-7" ereaders over the years. I only got the Scribe because I like devices with styluses and the 64GB of storage was nice.
The Scribe is probably overkill for most people. It took me a long time to get used to the size and weight. I read faster on smaller devices due to less eye wander. I just use it at home due to how big it is.
Paperwhite, Kobo, others in the 6-7" range are probably what is going to appeal to most people.

It worked for me without any invitation. I did have to back out of my cart the first time i tried to use the code. Went back to the Amazon homepage, back to cart, used promo code and it worked then.

Worked for me when I started a trade in independently then went to purchase the scribe!
So you got the 20% off and the 15% off? Did you click the link for trade in on the Scribe product page, or did you go to the trade-in page, get your 20% added, and then go get the Scribe? What did the price come to?

The Scribe is a notepad first, an e-reader second. Just want to keep that in mind. They're pretty popular in meetings as there's an app that lets you publish to OneNote. I think the Remarkable tablet is similar but more high end.

Last year, they did the same thing where they had all the kindle deals on sale early. The price did not decrease on Prime Day. But I'm thinking there could be a possibility of the following:
  1. Some Amazon gift card deal might be available to sweeten this deal
  2. Prime Visa cardholders might get 10% cashback instead of 5% (Never mind, it does have the 10% off for Prime Visa card)

This is what happened to me (most likely not the most ideal set of steps).
  1. I added the Kindle w/ Kindle Unlimited to the cart
  2. I checked out and added the promo code. It stated it was successfully applied, but the price didn't reflect it.
  3. I cancelled the checkout and re-checked out. The price now reflected the 15% off.
  4. I cancelled the checkout again, removed the item, and added the Kindle w/o Kindle Unlimited because the trade-in button didn't show up unless I did
  5. Once I added it, I went back to the product page to click on the trade-in button. Went through all the prompts.
  6. When I went back to checkout, the 20% off trade-in promo wasn't applying once more (but the 15% one was still applied)
  7. I removed the Kindle and re-added it once more. Finally, it showed both the 20% and the 15% off discounts.
I probably could have saved me all the trouble and time above by doing the trade-in prompts first, added the product to the cart, added the promo code, and then if that didn't work, re-checkout.

Note, I purchased the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Bundle - https://dealquestnow.online/f/18420742-deal-of-the-day-for-prime-members-kindle-paperwhite-signature-edition-elevate-your-reading-experience-188-97
Subtotal was $188.97. 15% off discount was $37.80 and Kindle Trade-in discount was $30.23, which ended up being $120.94 before tax. In the end, it was a 36% discount, which was more than I expected, but the math is a little funky. I'm pretty sure what happened is that the 15% was based on the non-sale price (The "Buy new" price of $251.97) and the 20% off was based on the post-15%-off-discount price, so my guess is that for the Kindle Scribe the price would be $176.79 ($259.99 x 0.8 x 0.85).
