Garmin has stopped pushing software upgrades for this gen (Epix 2 and Fenix 7). You'll get important stuff like bug fixes and security updates. But only newest gens (like Fenix 8 and FR 570/970) get constant upgrades.
I got the Epix 2 non-Pro last year and I'm happy with it. I don't know what I'm missing out on.

Man... that's still just a whole lot to pay for a timepiece that's so quickly disposable.
I think your comment is geared towards smartwatches in general, though keep in mind for athletes these Garmins can have legitimate lifecycles of 10+ years. I do hear what you're saying, but I would not put it in the Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch class.

These things are tanks. I think I had my fenix 3 sapphire for multiple years before I sold it and upgraded to an epix pro. Love the LED light feature and I use it way more than I thought I would. While it doesn't have a lot of the features of some of the smart watches, I came straight back to Garmin for the battery life.

The battery life is definitely awesome! I wish Samsung would figure out how to even get half the number of days of the Garmin. I wear my galaxy watch ultra most of the time because I prefer the screen and some of the features but I'm lucky if I get 2 days with light use.

Athletes. If you don't care about the watch or feature set why bother to comment. It's a great watch with ridiculously long battery life

I have both also and unless I'm using it for a sport the Garmin doesn't come out. I'd rather charge my ultra every two days then have to suffer through trying to use my Garmin. It can't even handle the most basic of smartwatch tasks, it doesn't even have time stamps on notifications. Also like someone else mentioned it's retired even though it didn't come out that long ago. Also there's the connect+ nonsense. The whole idea before was you were paying a large amount for a watch but everything else would be free forever, not anymore. If you don't need it for sports tracking there's no way it's worth the money, I'll never get another Garmin.

For long battery life, excellent AMOLED display, good set of notifications that you can set using the app on your phone, super nice flashlight that I use every single night, for good display stats and GPS tracking, sports tracking... Buy an Amazfit T-Rex 2 or 3 watch.

There are others in the Amazfit line as well but I like the T-Rex series for it's robustness.
