Dram-less drive with 64mb cache buffering if anyone wondering. It uses Innogrit IG5220 and YMTC TLC

Does anyone know if the ps5 utilize dram?
Yes. PS5 SSDs should have a DRAM buffer for optimal performance. The console does NOT support HMB which is what drives like this one use instead of DRAM.

Worth noting that that stuff only matters for writes, not reads. But the lack of any sort of buffer can significantly slow down writes, and the drive is already below Sony's spec to begin with. Teamgroup is a solid brand and it will most likely still work ok in a PS5, but it will be noticeably slower than the internal drive.

For just $10 more ($17 if you prefer Amazon over what Newegg has turned into) you can get the Teamgroup MP44Q which is a 7400/6500MB/s (R/W) drive that does have DRAM; that would be my choice over the G50 for any application really. Don't try to use that one in a PS5 with just the graphene label though; those are meant to go under the built-in heatsinks on motherboards. For PS5 you'll need to get a proper low-profile heatsink to go with it (so add another $7-10 to the cost for that).

Hmm I looked up the MP44Q (since $210 for a 4TB DRAM SSD is a great deal as of now) and every source I came across (multiple reviews, TechPowerUp SSD database, etc) explicitly say the MP44Q drive does not have DRAM and utilizes HMB like the G50 from this thread and basically all 4TB SSDs in this price range.
Maybe you've got the MP44Q mixed up with a different, likely more expensive model?

For the OG Ally you'll need an adapter. Out of the box the OG Ally only supports the shorter 2230 length SSDs, since this SSD is the more standard 2280 length it wouldn't fit. However there are adapters that can make the OG Ally compatible with 2280 SSDs without too much issue, you can find them relatively cheap on Amazon. The newer Ally X has an updated internal layout and works with 2280 SSDs out of the box though.

You are correct that the PS5 doesn't support HMB. However, DRAM and HMB have little to do with write performance (that's impacted by the pSLC cache). DRAM/HMB is used to store a copy of the mapping table (FTL) and helps most with small, random reads.

BTW, the Team Group MP44Q is a DRAM-less QLC drive.
