Thanks OP for sharing.
I'm not sure if it's a good deal though especially for $20-$30 more you can get WD Red Pro with 5 + 1 yr additional warranty. My 2 cents.

WesternDigital 18TB My Book Desktop External Hard Drive, USB 3.0, External HDD with Password Protection and Auto Backup Software

Lowest price it's been in over a month. Only $14 higher than the lowest price ever at Amazon.

Is that WD Red Pro deal on Slick Deals now? I couldn't find it.
edit: Oh, you mean this expired $294 deal without the 10% back (so $16.33/Tb). https://dealquestnow.online/f/18385312-18tb-wd-red-pro-7200-rpm-sata-iii-3-5-internal-nas-hard-drive-294-free-shipping

The Ultrastar HC550 in the WD MyBook is a data center drive and is generally preferred over the WD Red Pro as HGST's drives have a proven track record.

The Red is probably a better drive vs. buying this drive just to shuck it, especially since there's no guarantee what type of drive is inside the MyBook enclosure. But if you want just a large external backup drive then this is a pretty good deal.

My NAS array of 5400 rpm 8TB WD white label drives from 2019 MyBook and Elements externals hit 6 years of power on time and I've been shopping for a new set of drives. That's how I came across this deal for Prime members.
(no drive failures from those four WD white label disks but it's time to refresh my NAS)

One of my 8TB from a EasyStore (red label WD80EFAX) just died this past month. No SMART error apparently it didn't accept commands. Drive dated 19 Jun 2017, so 8 years old.

It's got 4 siblings, been I'm shopping for spares right now... I did have a spare 10TB, so it's back to RAID 6.

So it looks like the Seagate externals are no go since they are normally Barracuda drives unless you're looking at the very highest TB drive (like 28TB or 30TB)?

18tb and 14tb have recent reports of being exos.

That one is most likely the 24TB Barracuda drive and is only rated for 100 power-on days a year (aka <8 hours of use a day) and has gotten a lot of hate from the reddit community. Using it more than that could be seen as usage abuse and void your warranty. Wouldn't recommend it.
