At first this doesn't seem to be a terrible deal, but it gives you virtually no specs on the screen other than resolution, which suggests that its an awful screen. It doesn't even tell you the refresh rate and doesn't give you the option to upgrade the screen. All of that makes this a NO BUY.

Good price for these specs. However, there are some compromises.

Thermals aren't the best. There are varying reports on these laptops ranging from perform without issue to thermal throttling heavily. May need a repaste and some tinkering if you're an unlucky one. Repasting may potentially void warranty.

Although there are two M.2 slots, you only have access to one. The other, which holds the OS, is located underneath the heatsink. As mentioned before, there are reports that removing the heatsink to access it may void warranty.

If you're okay with these two details, this laptop will perform near levels of a laptop with a 4080, which would go for $1800-$2000 last year. The only 4080 laptop that approached these prices were refurbished Acer Helios, which had their own compromises regarding cooling, apparently.

I have given the exact specification for you. And for HP, it is a common practice for years that for the configurable models, they don't post the full specification of the display. Just Go to the HP Omen MAX product page and select one which is fixed and having the QHD+ panel and you'll see that the specification is clearly given over there.

The heating issue is with Intel models which uses Intel HX series Arrow Lake Processors like Ultra 7 255HX. This model is AMD's normal Strix Point which is similar to Intel's Arrow Lake H series and does not have heating problem at all. This specific processor can reach its full potential even at 60W.

And regarding your concern about voiding the warranty for upgrading the SSD underneath the heatsink, let me clarify that for you. There is literally a law preventing those kind of behaviors or warranty warnings and provide users right to repair their device. After that was enforced, a lot of manufacturers like MSI, Acer etc. started removing those "Void If Opened" stickers or logos from their devices. In very simple words, manufacturers warranty can't be voided for just upgrading the device by yourself.

How does this compare to the HP deal from early June? And can you get this cheaper using the student or workplace discounts?

Can you upgrade the ram to 64gb (on your own at a later date) or is it soldered?

Better deal now for AMDs. The Intel builds are not as good of a deal. It seems they rotated the deals from June to other PC builds. This time it stacks with student/workplace discounts (just having a basic account gets you at least an extra 5% or so).

2 slot and you can upgrade up to 96GB using 48GB SODIMM modules. When 64GB SODIMM will be available, you can go up to 128GB with this CPU.

It's usually that way since EPP already has extra discounts built in - generally can't use a consumer coupon code.
