I think most of these tend to dump a lot of heat into the wall space and have thermal issues.

Just cut it to exactly 2.87 x 2.55. Two very common marks on rulers.

I don't why people get these for their desks. I just get a surge protector and mount it under my desk. I rarely need to plug/unplug things at my desk. It's much more cleaner and I don't have to worry about liquids spilling into it.
