I just got this. As always, wattage don't matter much. It has all the nice modern feature Dolby Atmos surround DTS vision 8K eARC CEC HDMI 2.1a 4K120hz blah blah blah.

So basically it supports all the nice new tech under the sun and the only downside is 5-channel and shit room EQ software (please don't use it!). But for $200 it's literally the best thing to get started. You would have to spend several times more money to get something that is an upgrade from this.
Can't tell if you're being serious?
I'm not sure you know how serious home theater works. going with mid powered speakers only gets you so far. high end passive speakers are much better. and what decodes all the advanced surround sound formats? how would you setup something like a 7.2 system? how would you perform room correction? what if you need 5+ inputs? adding atmos speakers?

why are these even needed anymore in 2025?
legi question - been looking at all these fire soundbar setups, and wondering what's the point of the dedicated receiver

is that even all necessary? I understand you are big into home theater, but I'm going to venture your setup is only marginally better than what I suggested up top, right? Even if the difference is wide, are you really gonna blast whatever youre watching at super high volume in order to detect all the sounds you are wanting to hear? that is very bad for the ears

Soundbars are not it. A small step above the tv speakers at best…

if you go in the sound room at best buy and you think "this sounds pretty much the same as a sound bar" then by all means get a sound bar. some rich people drink $12 bottles of wine. you dont have to have fancy stuff if you cant tell or dont care. if it is good enough for you, then that is great. however, some of us know how to spend it.

just go with some Sonos with rear and side speakers and maybe a soundbar
No thanks. My parents spent over $1,500 on Sonos for mediocre sound. The great thing about sound is that you can actually buy real speakers and subwoofer for cheaper than Sonos and blow them out of the water.Oh no, I had to set up an AV receiver and connect some speaker wire, and save money for superior audio.

what are you asking? why is an AVR needed in 2025? I answered that.

is it necessary? is it needed? no of course not. but some people like it. who TF cares. those are personal questions. why TF are you asking about it on a deal site?
