This could be considered as a gaming rig starter pack? (I would prefer a mATX mobo option)

16GB Ram is awkward.

Sounds like after tax, right?

Absolutely fine for a starter, but the RAM is a bit low. If you dump this RAM on to eBay and pickup a 32gb (2x16gb) kit, pair this up with an entry level card (9060xt 16gb or 506016gb) and a sensible case, Thermalright air cooler…you could build a very nice rig for under $1k

says someone who's never opened his task manager and seen how much ram is actually being used.
Windows 11 plus a recent AAA game and nothing else running will easily push a system to to 14-15 GB, windows uses 9GB on it's own. I'm currently getting 15 GB of usage with God of War (2019) running on a single 1440P monitor. Seems highly likely Windows is swapping in the background from time to time with 16gb setups, unless the system stripped down to bare essentials, or running Linux. If you have a $750+ rig, seems a bit silly to cheap out on a bit of memory headroom to ensure it runs smooth...

Sounds like maybe you're the one that needs to open Task Manager more often?

Better and Cheaper, I bought this combo with 1TB M.2 SSD deal. Paid $20 more but better than 16GB RAM deal.
Tthe ASRock Z890 Steel Legend WiFi is good board but memory picky and some issue with BT, but new beta BIOS was just released to fix those issue.

Nothing opened but chrome, 42% used of 32gb.

Thank you for your answer! 32gb would be a good start, only that I was thinking something under $700 lol

It's a lot more performance than a 'starter pack'
For this price its hard to beat this kind of performance. The 265k isnt the best gaming CPU, but it still is a top tier gaming CPU. For context the difference between the very best gaming CPU and the 265k is 8% at 1440p with a 4090, 3% at 4k. If you have a weaker GPU than a 4090 the gap shrinks further. Obviously if you play at 1080p the gap increases more, but nobody is buying a top tier CPU and using a 1080p monitor, even many esports pros have moved to 1440p.
Beyond gaming performance alone, its a very good overall CPU. Remember the best gaming CPU I was comparing it to? The 265k is +50% faster in multithreaded workloads than it, while being on average more energy efficient.
16GB isnt ideal, but very workable for most games and something you can easily upgrade later on or just immediately sell the kit and buy a 32GB one.
So yeah, i'd highly recommend this for basically anyone that has a reasonable budget. The best gaming CPU alone is $472, which is $100 more than this combo and you dont get a motherboard or RAM or free games...

42% of 32GB? Do you have 50+ tabs open?
