Not to thread crap, but the newer "Pro" version of this is on Kickstarter for slightly more if interested.

how does this compare to the Gitzo combo that's on sale on B&H?

All these are too heavy as 'travel tripod' if you do serious hike with them.

that's why it's called a travel tripod and not a hiking tripod.

nonetheless, these are overpriced.

These are for people with money to burn. Better off giving 500 to charity and buying $40 tripod.

Gitzo is also pricey, but well known and established.

Looks like it's about comparable in nearly all aspects. Not as compact, but the ball head is much better, and you can upgrade that later.

And yet they're still fairly useless for shooting video, without a fluid head and arm. Which brings up the bigger point: how many people are actually setting up and hauling tripods for snapping still pictures, anyway? Pretend professionals, or they actually need it? These days, with sensors being so sensitive and lenses being so bright, high shutter speeds in photography are the norm and that locks down an image handheld. Setting up a tripod for a still picture is total grandpa territory. When we're talking tripods, it's video or bust...
