Nice, previous sales have been stuck forever at $20 for the gold edition. Thanks OP!

Ugh this is my purchasing price but I struggle with PSN purchases due to all my digital ps3 games licenses did not transfer to ps4/5.

I'll wait for the annual Humble RE bundle this year for $20 with a lot of RE games on PC.

It's one of the rare discounts for PS5 Pro Enhanced versions, I am thinking of getting it to try but 10 hours seems short for an RE game. How do you develop a story in 10 hours, or is this a part of a different story with lead character?

thats the typical length of a RE game. You get more out of it from replays and added modes

I guess I was thinking of when I played back in the day we just kept playing. Is this OK for someone who hasn't played in ages to play or is there any backstory to cover?

I get what you're saying, but to clarify, it's not that your licenses didn't transfer, it's that PS4/5 are not backwards compatible with PS3 software. The licenses are still tied to your PSN account. There are some PS1 and PSP classics that you can claim on PS4/5 if you purchased them on PS3/PSP. There are also a few early PS4 games that supported cross-buy with their PS3 versions. But you're right; on PC you can still play games from all generations. That is if you're willing to spend the time needed to get them running properly (I speak from experience).

Edit: And going forward, future PS consoles will likely be backwards compatible with everything from PS4 and up, just as PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games.

Have you ever played a Resident Evil game? They're almost all short. In fact, there are trophies for beating most of them in 3-4 hours. You're not going to get through this in 10 hours unless you really rush through it. That being said, you should play 7 first, because this is a direct continuation.

They put a ton of the PS1/PS2/PS3 games on streaming tiers of ps+ thereby locking those old buyers out if they purchased on the PS3 store. If you load up those streaming titles it still says the PS3 license in the small print loading the game.

PS2 was backwards compatible and some PS3 were also. The PS4 stopped and started over as the popularity of the PS+ subscription became in the later life of PS3.

I think twice about supporting $ony because of that issue. I got a used ps4 and waited until a PS5 was $350 (Target BF 2023). Their PSVR1 games doesn't work for the PSVR2 which also soured some gamers.

The games being included in the PS+ streaming catalog is not locking out old buyers. If you bought a digital title from the PS Store, and it can run on PS4 or PS5 (emphasis on this point), then you can download and play it without a subscription. I'm not subscribed to PS+ and yet I can download and play on PS5 Twisted Metal 2, which I bought on PS3 many years ago, and Resistance Retribution, which I bought way back on PSP, and Knack, which I bought on PS4. These titles are all included in their PS+ catalog and I can still play them without a subscription because PS5 can run them. However, I can't play Motorstorm Apocalypse, which I bought on PS3, because Sony did not engineer the PS4/5 to run PS3 software.

Microsoft on other hand invested in an emulation solution that allows users to install and play a some of the more popular games from their Xbox/360 library on their modern consoles, but Sony didn't make a similar investment. What Sony offers is merely a method to play some older titles via streaming, but it's not intended to grant access to our old PS3 libraries. This is evident from the fact that it includes games we may have never purchased.

I don't like it either, and I would obviously prefer to be able to play my PS3 library natively on PS4/5, but it is what it is. And at least when a classic game is added to the catalog that can be installed, they grant a license to users who already purchased it for PS3/PSP.

And while you're correct that we can't use PS VR2 to play games designed for PS VR because they utilize very different technologies, PS VR games are still fully playable on PS5; we just need to use the original headset and controllers.

I own 7 on PSVR and I still haven't gotten the nerve (or vr legs) to attempt it yet.
