For nonSamsung phone users, you can still utilize the Smarttag2s with your android phones by using the uTag app from KieronQuinn (https://github.com/KieronQuinn/uTag) -
uTag is an Android app and mod for Samsung SmartThings which allows the use of Samsung SmartTags on non-Samsung Android devices running Android 11 or above. No root, no Shizuku needed. uTag allows the use of almost all SmartTag features. This includes setting up, connecting to and tracking Tags, ringing Tags, location history, precise finding with UWB (requires a UWB-capable device), left behind alerts and much more. In addition, uTag includes some features which Samsung's app does not have, such as widgets, safe areas for leaving Tags behind based on Wi-Fi networks and exporting location history.
Been using it with my Pixel 7 and SO's OnePlus 8

Well for nyc I've parked at every spot and street around my house over a few dozen times. Sometimes you think you parked somewhere then go back there to find it wasnt actually there. Every spot is probable. So this helps with that. Not as a precise location teller but mostly which street/direction its on. Cause whoever's phone the tracker uses to ping its location can just choose to share the location 150ft away from the car.

Now the tracker I have on my Key comes in mad handy when you're in a rush then pick up your key from wall on your way out to not remember which room you left your phone at. Double click the tag, it'll ring up your phone, this is a default thing. Same the other way around. Especially if you go to party or someone else's house. You only need one to find the other. The precision thing where you follow with camera will never work, you gotta just ring one from the other. What works though is the connection. I dont know how it manages to ring my phone right away while bluetooth is turned off. Its using some other connection.

I have 2

One of mine needed battery change at 1 year point.
The other one thats sits in the car with Battery Saving turned on(suggested by Samsung if kept in car), is on low battery right now, bought March 2024. Might change battery maybe 2 more month later seeing the first one ran on low battery for just over 2months.

So what would these be good for? Finding keys? Tracking your car? Finding wallet?

specifically, how good are they for that task

I travel for work often, let alone my personal travel. I have one in my carry on, one in my suitcase, one in my backpack, etc etc etc. My dog's collar has one too.

People put them on their keys, in the car, wallet and so on.

Very handy if you ever need it.

Pretty sure based on the reviews, that Samsung is feeling the heat from Google Find My network and their own Tag, since they have been opting all android 15 users in automatically. Anyone have both tags to compare them?

Can I put this in my car, and if ever stolen, it would help me locate it? I don't get how this works. Is it like the friend find app?
