A neighbor was throwing one out, I rescued it, cleaned it up, and it makes some solid waffles easily. Can recommend.

Looks like the same one I got from Target for $15. If it is (the same generic base), it's a good and worth the price. I still have it after 1yr and use it regularly.

Anyone know if this is easy to clean? I am assuming the plates doesn't come off for cleaning?

I got it for 15 too a long time ago, I thought it was a regular price.

One thing I don't like about it is that the blue light comes on way too early. It's barely cooked at that point, waffles are soft and crumbly like an angel cake.

I give it at least 2-3 minutes more, but that kind of defeats the purpose of it in my book as you have to open/close a few times to check for readiness or have a timer running to add minutes. Other waffle makers I had before were more on point with their blue lights.

If I were for a waffle maker I'd skip this one.

Sounds like a batter issue. It may not be the device.

I use Kresteux Waffle mix and some random grocery waffle mixes same as with my previous waffle makers which didn't have this problem. The light always comes on early. What batter issue can it possible be?
