The TCL 85" Class - Q77 Series - 4K UHD QLED is available from Costco for $800. This price includes Allstate 3-Year Protection Plan Bundle Included for 5 Years of Total Coverage. I ordered the TV online as shipping was free.
https://www.costco.com/ProductDis...4000364057
Costco has the Q77 series in these sizes and prices and include the extra 3-year protection:
  • 55" for $300,
  • 65" for $420,
  • 75" for $530,
  • 85" for $800,
  • 98" for $1,500

TCL Q77 Series: This series appears to be a Costco exclusive version of the Q7 series. While the core performance and features are very similar to the standard Q7 (Q750G), there are minor variations or specific bundled features that differentiate it. The Q7 series is considered mid-range QLED TV. Sitting above the Q7 Series (Higher Tiers - premium features, significantly better picture quality, often Mini-LED) are QM7 and QM8 series.
For example, the Q77 enhancements relative to the Q7 are:
  • A higher native refresh rate, 144 Hz vs 120 Hz
  • A higher-contrast HVA (Horizontal Vertical Alignment) panel vs VA (Vertical Alignment) panel

I said that the QM7 & QM8 sit above the Q7 series. But, the QM7 is also much more expensive. A recent 5 star posting has the TCL 85" QM751G Series for $1,300 vs the Q77 for $800.

You get what you pay for. Mini-LED is the way to go. IMO…😏

I saw this last week and it would have been a great deal if the q77 was equivalent to the q7, but the costco q77 doesn't even have local dimming. The Q7 does. Personally, the lack of local dimming removes the Q77 from consideration.

The TCL Q7 and the TCL Q77 both have Full Array Local Dimming (FALD). . This technology, also referred to as "Full Array PRO Local Dimming," divides the backlight into dimming zones, allowing for more precise control over brightness and contrast, especially in dark scenes. The Q77 series offers a higher number of dimming zones compared to edge-lit TVs, providing better contrast and black levels.

Q77 does not have local dimming.

Full array LED backlight itself does not mean it has local dimming. The Q651g is also full array LED with no local dimming.

Many full array LED backlit TVs do have local dimming but not here.

That's a pretty wild difference to not have local dimming on the Costco model when the regular model has it. Way bigger deal than the normal small differences that don't matter nearly as much.

no local dimming zones kills this. local dimming can give an almost oled level perception when in a dark room. everything else about this deal is very good.

side note, does anyone know what cpu or soc this thing has? cant find it anywhere as this is a costco only model and doesnt match anything else

I just got the 55" Q6 from Costco for $20 less then the 55" Q77 Costco has, is it worth returning it for the Q77?

I'm assuming you got the Hisense QD6, since that's the only TV listed in that same price range.

From what I can figure, the Q77 in the OP is essentially a costco-only update of the TCL Q6, with improved higher refresh rate.

In that sub $300 price range, a TCL Q6/Q77 and the hisense QD6 are pretty similar.

Bottom line: TCL Q77 is better for gaming with support for 144 Hz refresh rate, and lower input lag, but otherwise, the 2 TVs are pretty comparable quality-wise.

You also get 5 total years of warranty coverage for the TCL Q77, compared to only 3 with the hisense QD6. If you value those extra 2 years of warranty coverage and game a lot, it could be worth the extra $20 and the hassle of returning.

If my last TV was a 2019 TCL 65R615, how much of a up/down/lateral step would the Q77 be?

Yes I want a Mini-LED 120hz but at this price and the additional warranty, I could get 2 for what I would have spent on 1.

(and the 65" qualifies for $150 discount when buying 2)

(Around $690 for 2 before tax.)

4 steps up, 3 steps down, and a 1/2 step to the left. You should maybe upgrade!

Sorry, I was reffering to the TCL Q6 here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tcl-...Id=6579457

This tv is mostly going to be a tv in the gym and watching football on the weekends while doing so, no gaming or home theater viewing
