Electric guitars are much easier to learn on (because you don't have to press the strings as hard), but if you can play an acoustic, you can easily play an electric. I started on acoustic, some 27 years ago. It was rough, and I almost gave up guitar. A friend bought an electric not long after, and let me borrow it, and that's why I'm still playing today. I love acoustic guitars now, but hated playing them as a kid.
