It's a post workout bar. You want sugar to replace the glycogen your muscles used.

This isn't a nutrition or general purpose bar IMO. Or at least shouldn't be used as one.

I prefer making things with protein powder if I'm not using this stuff during or after activities. Gives you more control of ingredients.

They do try to push onto the general public though.
This is a niche segment.

Sugar yes, but no artificial sugar. You can burn off calories but you can't burn off carcinogens!

all depends what your wants are in a bar.

its mostly soy protein and heavy on carbs while having a lot less ingredients than some other bars.

If you like those Lennys protein cookies but are trying to get more protein and less calories this wouldnt be bad.

Soy protein absorbs just as well as whey protein. The only downside to this bar is the added sugar content, but that comes with the territory unfortunately if you want it to taste halfway decent.

But do they have the same content of essential aminos?

People always compare these to protein bars that are 99% artificial sweeteners, inulin and maltitol, rather than comparing them to other energy bars. OG Clif Bars are 250 calories and 10g protein. These ones are 290 calories and 20g protein. So it's a Clif bar with twice the protein, if you're active enough and don't have to avoid carbs. I like them after a long run or bike ride in lieu of a protein shake or smoothie, or they'd be great on a hike. They're not meant to replace your 120 calorie ultra-macro bars IME.

Yep, soy is a complete protein.

I agree, but if you compare the ratios of essential aminos in whey and soy you'll find that soy has a little more than half the content of whey. That's not to say that soy is bad, but for a bar this expensive MSRP I would expect whey.

These bars are great for Soy lovers! Soy Protein, Soy Lecithin, Soy Flour, Roasted Soybeans ... mixed with delicious seed oils like High OLIEC Sunflower seed oil and Palm Kernel oil. The 4 different kinds of sugar in these bars are organic too for the health conscious who may be sitting on the fence.
