Jeeeez that's a massive battery, what's the difference between this and the "power stack" I keep hearing about? Nice impact driver, 860 is top of the line compact

Loaferz look closer, you're getting the 8Ah Power Stack battery.
The Power Stack batteries don't use the cylinder battery cells internally, they are flat rectangular cells stacked on each other making it smaller than if the cylinder cells were used. That 8Ah Power Stack battery is still pretty big and heavy.

That's actually not correct, this listing includes an 8ah PowerPack** which uses tabless cylindrical cells not pouch cells like the powerstacks. Theoretically they provide better voltage drop resistance but the difference is probably marginal in most use cases

Yes and no.
You re correct about the POWERSTACK internals... BUT, this 8ah battery is a POWERPACK that does use cylindrical cells, the difference is that they use tabless "technology" to offer a higher current output and are sold as [now, apparently] 4ah and 8ah. POWERSTACK is sold as 1.7ah, 3.5ah, and 5ah.

They have a similar idea behind both, higher possible current output:
POWERSTACK was first and offered higher current output in a smaller package. The 1.7ah is amazing (high output and tiny), 5ah seems good but not worth the premium (high output but nearly as big as a 6ah ("older" non-tabless style) that would do the same), and I haven't yet been able to try the 3.5ah.
POWERPACK is the new thing on the block, the 8ah was the first and the same size as the regular 6ah & 8ah batteries and is supposed to have much higher output and the 4ah is the same size as the slim 3ah & 4ah batteries (not sure if the 4ah is actually on sale yet).

Not an ideal combination. Not many people want or need an 8Ah battery to drive screws. Battery is more suited for larger tools.

That's easily their best 20V Max battery but it's kind of a mismatch for a compact tool like this. This is the kind of tool you'd pair with a PowerStack or 4AH PowerPack, but only if you demanded top performance. It'll pair fine with any of their smaller batteries. I've barely had my DCF860 a month and I have a ton of batteries to choose from but I've only used it with DCB201 1.5AH and DCB205 5AH batteries.

Maybe deck builders and roofers who want an all-day battery.

This is an okay deal. You get the best battery they make and a good charger and a bag with a slider plastic bottom (that I actually like and use, but don't need another) paying full msrp for the 860. The 860 is the crazy powerful impact driver. I want it but I don't need it at all. I already have one of the batteries and they are the cats pajamas.

Most will realize it's much lighter to use smaller batteries and swap when needed.

tempted - what do people think you could sell the charger and battery for on FB marketplace? They are over $200 if bought separately new.

Probably, but even that can be inconvenient if you are up on a roof building a house or something that doesn't have power yet.

Swap the battery 1 time at lunch.
tool is 2.4lb this battery is almost the same.

I'd rather lift a 3.7lb tool hundreds of times vs a 4.6lb tool.

Where the big batteries shine is when you need big power for constant use..

such as grinders, and yard equipment.

PS 2.2lb battery is silly with cordless drill too.
or anything else that is compact, lightweight, and intermittent use.

I agree, and the first thing I said in this thread was that it's a mismatch. Just positing why someone might use an oversized battery with such a compact tool anyway.

I think I quoted the wrong post.

That all being said.. IT IS a much better deal with the bigger battery.. because at this point who doesn't have smaller batteries to use with it?
I'd love this battery with my string trimmer, blower, minichainsaw, angle grinder, fan, etc. (if it fits)
