These work, especially if you have hard water. Acidic toilet bowl cleaners are the first line of attack but Zep 10% isn't even the highest acid cleaner on the shelf (see Lysol Power, especially from Costco). However, anyone who's dealt with hard water though will inevitably develop a stain that will not go away with acid alone.
Don't press so hard, you're trying to dislodge the stains, not sand down the substrate. Wet the stone so it isn't so abrasive. You will get good results; porcelain is a 7 on the mohs scale of hardness, pumice is a 6. You will crumble the stone before scratching the porcelain. Crazy how many people cause damage with these things... It shouldn't be the case

Instead, buy something like Zep acidic toilet bowl cleaner, which is basically a 10% solution of hydrochloric acid which will actually remove stains. It's around $5-6 at Home Depot and works fairly well once you let it sit for a while.
