What would you recommend? I've wanted a drone since the first mini, and have been telling myself I'll get one eventually.
I don't fully understand the limitations of these, and seeing this makes me think there's chance for a better alternative.

The DJI Neo or the HoverAir. I own the HoverAir X1 since at the time the government was tracking DJI drones. They don't anymore so these Minis seem like a good deal. Just wish they were more self controlled like the Neo and HoverAir. The selfie drones have way more applications if you aren't a filmmaker. I use it for vacations, golf videos and walking videos with friends and family. No need to worry about the FAA. Just stay away from national parks and big tourist areas. They shoot them down with EMP guns or some sci fi stuff
Lol not sure if you knew but years ago the FAA made everyone register their drones. They gave an exception to drones under 250 grams but even with that, I saw people getting cited tickets for flying them in public spaces here in California. Forced me to wear a tin hat whenever buying drones
Drones over 249g have to broadcast remoteid, and the general public can get an app and various gadgets to track where the drone operator is flying from. I kept the drone and just bought bought different batteries that didnt require remoteid. Take the free online course and get an app to check for and get approval in any controlled air spaces,. It's actually very easy.
Drone flying is really about getting up really early before people wake up and when lighting and wind are your friends, government tracking less so. Yes, there are spots you will never be able to fly in or get videos of, but those aren't deal breakers for most people.
