I agree, that's the biggest problem.
Fire sticks were great in the beginning and I would upgrade to the newest one whenever possible. But while the hardware was getting better, the software went the opposite direction. It was pushing more ads and more aggressively.
I stopped upgrading and now I'm looking for a way out, anybody have any recommendations?

It's more than good enough for Plex or Kodi to handle 4K streaming with all the bells and whistles (Atmos, Dolby Vision, etc) via Direct Play from your NAS/Plex server. Plus, SmartTube [github.io] works great when sideloaded.

Plex, SmartTube, and tinyCam PRO [amazon.com] are the only apps I use/watch on the multiple 4k Firesticks in my home, and they function wonderfully and reliably. I would argue you'd be hard-pressed to find such functionality and features for just $30.

Too bad I don't qualify for any of the promo codes as I have a few old 4k Sticks I would like to upgrade to the Max version. Most people should be able to score a similar $30 deal, if not better, on Prime Day or Black Friday, though...
