Need a headlamp, but not sure if this one would be appropriate for a flashlight novice?? Anyone have reviews?

What purpose do you intend to use it for? Jogging, working on things within reach, etc.

I'm in a similar situation (planning on getting one). I've heard good things on SD about the Energizer x1000 for car and hvac work, but I'm deferring to my betters on here.

I have the the energizer x1000 an older variant anyways that only came in black. It was my daily flashlight, but recently it just wouldn't work anymore. Somethings to keep in mind when comparing it with the sofirn. It is twice the size and pretty heavy to wear on your head, don't even think about running with it the headband will expand and you'll have it smacking your head. It is micro-usb charging if you have a 18650 to put in there, you will have to supply this on your own as the new variant no longer comes with an 18650 battery but instead two CR123. It gets very hot with continuous use after 10 mins. The mode that offers max brightness you can only trigger it by holding the power button for 3 seconds, it will stay on that for a few seconds then auto dim down to the lower setting. Also the energizer does not have a magnet, but does come with the headband, mine came with a clip, but I'm not sure they offer that anymore on the new one. I am considering either this one or the other sofirn deal posted 3 days ago from amazon for 3 dollars more. Looks like this is coming up 16.06 + tax and shipping comes out to 20.05. Not sure how OP came up with 14.99

It might be a matter of preference but and the same class I preferred this instead:

Wurkkos HD10 - on sale right now for $20

I love the adjustable standby color leds, and that it has Anduril 2.

I typically use it with the clip attached to my jeans pocket, with the flashlight pointing forward. It works great.!

I have this and have purchased as gifts as well. Light, bright, versatile, good features. I love that it detaches and has a magnetic bottom and a clip. I have run with it. It bounces a bit but not bad. Replaceable rechargeable batteries are a must for me. This checks all my boxes. Love it. I own other Sofrin lights and I'm always impressed

I purchased a couple of models, including this one. don't really love them. Bright, but this band stinks. Especially compared to ones that have a strap across top of your head.

Black Diamond is my absolute favorite brand of headlamp. Imthe battery keeps its charge even after like two years of non use, and even sitting in my vehicle during a Phoenix summer. They're lightweight and easy to use. Problem is they are more expensive. They're on sale at REI now (I think this is the one https://www.rei.com/product/20275...e-headlamp). Not exactly a Slickdeal unless you want "buy once cry once" in a headlamp.
