I've barely used my desktop PC since I got it. Real-world use this M4 mini runs around 2-4W, whereas the desktop runs more like 100W (yes - that's something like 25-50x as much power).
Also, not the same type of storage either.
You can wait until your warranty expires then buy the third party 2TB module to refresh the machine for years to come.

A caveat for some people willing to tackle this relatively easy job is that you apparently need another Mac computer for something called the "DFU" process to reset the Mac. Sorry, I'm a Windows guy so terminology is foreign to me, although I have one of these M4s, because I wanted to investigate first-hand what the big deal was about it. So far, it's like everyone has said: very efficient and powerful, but I can't get used to the GUI at all. Everything is a keyboard shortcut, which is counterintuitive for someone who is used to clicking to figure things out for 30 years.

Edit: Oh the one "shortcut" i use is to get to the Spotlight (aka system wide) search which is Command+Space bar, but you can also click on the search icon (magnifying glass) at the top right of the menu bar. Spotlight works amazing to find documents, apps, settings, everything on the OS. Very well done.
GMkTec, Aoostar, Minisforum, and a bunch of the other Chinese 'mini PC' companies make very good machines in the same form factor as the Mac mini, and (IMO) now are worthy competitors.
Some, like ones from BeeLink, literally look like clones of the Mac mini.
They range in price from under $200 to $1000+. RAM can usually go to 96gb+, come with two or three SSD slots, and a bunch have oculink ports for adding full-fat GPUs down the line.

I'm looking for a mini PC to replace my aging laptop (which I use as a desktop). I use it for web browsing and very simple tasks. I don't game or video edit or anything that requires heavy video processing.
Would this be a simple replacement for my current Windows PC?
Can I import my Google settings/passwords/account over with ease? Can I download Chrome, or can I import my Chrome settings into Safari?
I have a Pixel 7 Pro phone. Will these still be able to talk to each other?
If I need additional USB C ports (I have no devices that would use the Thunderbolt ports), can I get USC C block to add additional ports on?
Thanks for the help. From what I read, these Macs are almost bullet proof (at least in terms of malware/virus safety) so that would be a nice upgrade.
Side note: My mom has an iPhone, and loves it. Should I replace her current Windows PC with this? I'm really worried about her downloading malware or tracking devices by accident as she gets older (and she's not exactly tech savy).
