I used to think that also. But not true anymore. Anything with somewhat of a "name-brand" is subject to counterfeit.

Easy reason. Someone makes a counterfeit overseas for like 75 cents, then repackages it in counterfeit "name-brand" packaging and sells it for $15. That is over 1000% profit margin.
The last micro SD i ordered from Amazon was a fake, and they deleted my review. Twice now I have received confirmed counterfeits and Amazon deletes the reviews and those are the only reviews I've ever had removed. They clearly have a system going...

I read these threads to see the alternative deals from Big Box places like Best Buy or the manufacturers where you know the product is legitimate. Pretty sure I'm done with Amazon for name brand tech stuff for a while.
1 dollar off usual price on the sandisk website. A dollar saved if you already wanted this. Not a crazy deal.

Only 32¢ more than the all-time best, in for a couple backups. Thanks.

This would seem to be a great deal, particularly, for usage in a dashcam. I'm curious, though, do we need to realistically worry about receiving a fake card, from this order?

Bingo. Never buy memory cards from Amazon. No matter how tempting the price is.

Yes, but they had people that used the most powerful computer in the world, the human mind.

Much better than mindless people using an iPhone for everything.

They are saying this is $1 less than the usual SanDisk website, so not much of a deal.

Exactly. Instead of going for the high end stuff. Most counterfeit US bill is the $10 and the $20 instead of the $100

The SanDisk website also offers free shipping at $13.99? You're saying it's not much of a deal, but you never mention shipping. If SanDisk isn't offering free shipping, then your comment "not much of a deal" is a bit misleading.

I was paraphrasing the OP of that comment to add clarity to the person who misunderstood it.

I've never received a counterfeit mSD from Amazon *but* I always check them with H2TestW to ensure they have the advertised capacity. I guess you could argue that they could still be counterfeit, but as I typically only buy cards with a lot of storage, and the counterfeiters make their $ by selling lower capacity cards as higher capacity cards, this check avoid that problem.

Also, to the 8MB comment for the Apollo Moon missions - don't forget that in addition to the human brain as a tool, the astronauts used: 1) slide rules; and 2) fully mechanical watches.
