I loved the Lord of the Rings books…but this thing was a slog. I made it maybe 1/4 of the way in and finally gave up.

You can't compare an ebook price to a hardcover special edition price. That's ridiculous.

If you open it in a browser (can't be the Amazon app) it should show up as the kindle version.

It's not a narrative story like LOTR or The Hobbit. It's like a make-believe history book. I recommend reading it with some sort of companion story or podcast. I'm currently listening to it in Audible and listening to the Prancing Pony podcast to explain things I didn't get one chapter at a time

Love the silmarillion. Wish J. R. R. had stuck around a little longer and fleshed out the stories a little more LoTR style.
