To be fair, the Irwin bits are 50% more expensive so that's not quite 'about the same price', but I'm also curious if you're saying they're better quality because you've used both and find the Irwin superior, or you're just stating they're higher quality because the overall review score for the Irwin bits is higher than for the Spyder bits? Not trying to argue, just genuinely curious because I'm fine with paying 50% more if in fact the Irwins are much more superior in some way.

Those Irwin bits will not like nail encounters, at all. These Spyder bits are ship auger bits, designed for boring framing members, where nail strikes are likely. They are also designed to handle to torque of large right angle drills, such as the Hole Hawg - hence, the thicker shank. These are not 1/4" shank, will not fit in your standard impact driver.

If you don't need the nail-eating ability, then by all means choose the Irwins. These aren't what most folks need anyway. If you do need nail-eating ship augers, these are not going to be pro-grade.
