It's got hall effect sticks so I'd say it's an upgrade

Idk if Id say better or worse, just a different shape that may fit different hands better. This is all personal preference.

I bought one of these a month or so ago due to all the raving about it among gamer gooners. Tbh, if I could turn back time I wouldn't buy it. Just doesn't have that nice solid feeling I get from a Sony DualShock/DualSense controller holding it in my hands. And now I have to figure out why some games refuse to recognize it (ie STALKER 2), and even the software for it won't recognize it now for some reason. Maybe I just need to reboot but then I just reach for my trusty Sony pads and all is right with the world again.

It depends.

They both have good build quality, but I don't like the grip on the 8bitdo as much. Too slick for me and the back buttons don't help.

If you're only using it for switch, then get the pro controller.

I'm using the 8bitdo on PC with the included wireless adapter and it works great.

edit: oops did you mean the pro2 from 8bitdo that looks like the snes? or the Official Nintendo Pro controller?

I don't suppose this controller can be charged, then left in a drawer for a month, and still have battery left? I'm also confused how I'm supposed to haul the pro controller or Joy-cons around in a bag without them constantly waking up and killing the battery?

Just did hours of research on this last week. Some say small in big hands (giggity) but otherwise a solid pro alternative

I remember trying this and a few other third party Switch controllers a little while ago, so if anything has changed drastically since, I apologize for not having kept up. That said, most of these controllers have analog triggers and are missing HD rumble. Depending on the games you play, they can be deal-breakers. The only exceptions I know of are some of the Mobapad models.

we've owned ours since July '23 and it has only needed a charge a handful of times. It has definitely sat around for a month or two at a time with no use.

Edit:
I actually have this one:

But they look the same

t Think 8bitdo takes the cake for most needlessly obfuscated product iteration and naming schemes:

I have them both. The pro controller is the perfect controller except for the D-pad. Had to return mine because it was that bad

Begrudgingly using my two 8bitdo ultimates. Good thing I got these for $30 Smilie

I feel like if this was a few years ago, I'd be very excited about this sale price considering this controller quality and build. However, nowadays, we've got a lot of great competition from EasySMX, Gamesir, and even USB dongles to use your first party controllers on anything for all under $20. Love the options and quality at such a price point! So when a 3rd party controller sells for more than $45 (more than an Xbox controller), even with hall effect sticks, it's hard to justify.

I'll stick to my Gamesir Nova Lite. It's at Best Buy for $20 right now and works on everything and has a USB Dongle that comes with it too if you prefer that over bluetooth!
