The point of the long handle is to be able to reach farther into a tight space to access the fastener, not to increase the amount of torque you can use. This is an awesome tool for small fasteners in tight engine bays and under the dash, but only if used correctly.
I bought this for $25 in September from Amazon. Regular price because I needed it. Yes it's a 20% discount, but it's just $5, and it's def not a 56% discount, and certainly not a "Slick deal." I feel like Amazon is beginning to mislead it's consumers in believing that products are on sale, or discounted more than they really are in order to increase sales. And it's starting to trickle down to Slickdeals - and the more false positive slickdeals you guys post on here, the less useful this site will become. For a moment I was convinced I paid $44 for this when I saw this post and got a little annoyed. Please do your research before posting.

The chance of using a 12" handle on a 1/4" is probably on the lower side, though I am not a mechanic.

Typical max torque limit on a 1/4" drive is 20ft/lb, so you would need 20lbs force to exceed the torque limit on the drive. Studies shown that a typical hand clap is between 20 - 40 lbs force.

That's why we see stubby 1/4" drive all the time, but not 3/8 or 1/2.

Excellent price. I am strongly tempted to purchase another.

That said, Tigerlui531 is mostly correct. This has a very narrow use case, so to speak. IIRC 1/4 screwdriver bits without a retention ring on the back don't stay in very well, and most bits require downward force toward the fastener in order to stay seated. If you are using it solely as a ratchet for sockets, in most cases regarding depth issues and reach, a nano/low profile wrench/socket set like the Astro 78318/78319 would be better suited. Honestly I probably purchased this gearwrench previously to help me hold out for a decent deal on the Astros

One area it would probably be hard to beat in but I haven't tried would be the handling of an actual quarter inch nut or fastener laugh out loud

Still a nice tool in worth owning at this price in my opinion.

Sorry for my dumb question but Is there a 'stubby' tall 1/2 inch drive version like this?

Do they make an equivalent in 3/8, 72-tooth locking flex slim head ratchet?

My search hasn't come up with a result for 3/8.

The closest you're probably going to get is the tear drop 90 tooth https://www.homedepot.com/p/GEARW...-n/a-_-n/a

This is such a weird tool, but I like gearwrench so I bought one. The small drive and the price would make a good stocking stuffer.

Been in the market for one of these for awhile now. Have run across many applications in the automotive area where this is the only tool to get to the fastener.

Got this set for ~$35 at HD on Black Friday a few years ago. It's been my go to for household, furniture and bicycle use now. I also use it in the car when I need the flex head, but that's not often.

So broke but couldn't resist pulling the trigger at that price. I've been eager to try me some gear wrenches. Thanks OP 👍
