sure about lithium? thought lithium was the most susceptible to temp drops tho I'm not a material scientist
Absolutely sure. Batteries like these do much better in the cold than alkaline and they don't leak (but they are expensive):

These usually sell for about $2 each. Not really a deal here. Just paying for a brand name.
Where can these typically be found for the $2 range. I'll happily get 2 at that price.

These are great thermometers. I just bought 3 of them in the past few weeks for like 7.xx$. Figures. No batteries, big face, easy to read. Put them all into the same fridge and freezer and they were all very close to each other in reading. Can't go wrong for 4$

Large dial, but very small numbers.
The numbers are not large, true. But these dial/clock type devices are meant to be viewed at a glance by looking at the direction of the needle. Like airplanes and older cars Smilie

Thanks for this link. The reviews do not look the best but might give it a shot. Our new fridge keeps getting ice stuck and I have had to defrost it twice in a year. This might help me catch the problem sooner.
Lucky you!
I've to do it twice a month in summer... Frown

It's easy to change the AA and AAA lithium batteries like the ones I linked to above.

True. The reviews on that 4 pack seem to be pretty good though
