I once bought a pulse oximeter from Newegg that was on sale. The pulse oximeter was defective. When I sent it back to Newegg, they charged me a restocking fee that matched what I originally paid for the pulse oximeter. Since then, I've sworn never to buy anything from them again.

Where are the 14TB deals?
From Amazon I bought a renewed enterprise 14 TB HDD (included a 5 yr warranty) for $110. Then added to the cart a nice external enclosure for $22. Let me know if interested in the links otherwise several other options out there to easily build your own.

For the experts. A stand-alone 20TB 3.5 is way more expensive than this one. Could I buy a bunch of these and pull out the drive?
Yes, very easy to do, I've been shucking them since the 8TB days (plenty of videos on YT to help you with this if needed). The only caveat is the 3.3V pin that causes the drive to go to sleep if used with a normal PC. Easiest fix is just to cover it with kapton tape as shown here: https://www.instructables.com/How...el-Disks-/

For those asking about shucking:

Per the nascompares.com master list [nascompares.com], the WD Elements 20TB model WDBWLG0200HBK-NESN comes with drive WD200EDGZ. This is the same drive that comes in the WD Easystore 20TB. Writeup from r/DataHoarder here [reddit.com].

Q: "Does this mean a white 20tb is essentially the same as a red pro/ gold?"
A: "Yes, but its firmware throttles the data throughput down by ~30%"

Sounds like they can be shucked but they are on the slow side. Not sure if that comment is because 5400RPM or they are implying 30% slower than normal 5400RPM.

I saw that same report on reddit. I'm wondering what the source of that information is or if someone actually did throughput tests compared to their other 20 TB offerings. Crippling throughput just because seems to make little sense unless the drive couldn't handle it (or they are just forcing users to buy proper internal drives vs shucking which seems more likely).

I'd rather give Bezos more money than support Newegg sellouts at this point.

This is a devil vs superdevil situation. Newegg is trash today.

I've shucked two of these with no issues. Really debating if I need/want a spare.

Some of the negative experiences with Newegg might be outdated. Newegg announced they would refocus on customer service after the various publicized debacles. I bought many items off Newegg in the past year and had no issue with multiple exchanges and refunds, including one where the USPS insisted they had delivered but I never received.

So they were publicly ridiculed into improving their customer service instead of just being half decent to begin with? Yeah, ill keep buying elsewhere unless there is a significant savings and little to no risk of needing to return.

If shucked, would one of these drives be safe to use in a NAS, or am I better off with one of the refurb Enterprise drives?

If I were to guess, it's probably not to limit speed, but heat in the enclosure . 20tb platter is going to retain a lot of heat when used at full. Probably best it doesn't built up fast.
