As a long time Final Fantasy fan, this is the first Final Fantasy in 2 decades that I did not get on release day. They pretty much gutted this game to be more accessible to the mass. Dumbed down combat, no status effect, rpg system pretty much non-existent, and many more. Exploration was a joke and the side quests were just thrown in as fillers with no thought to the pacing. Graphics are nice, but the game is pretty much all show and no go for me.

I actually really enjoyed the story. First FF that I actually stuck through to the finish since FF7.

Combat on the other hand was not that interesting to me though but I've never been a fan of Devil May Cry style combat.

for what's wroth, i don't think this game will age too well (story wise). it is quite a departure from traditional FF series, story is very much game of thorns, while it is definitely better than the ill conceived FF15, but that's not saying much.

XV was tiring! Boring fetch quests and didn't really care for the combat.

Good price. Previous low on Amazon (or anywhere, I think) was $34.99.

Do you think Square will release an ultimate version of this game which would include all dlcs? If so, I'll wait since I have a huge library of games I need to complete first.

On the contrary is one of their best entries in years.. this coming from someone who's been playing every iteration since FF2 on the SNES. It's a thoroughly complete self contained story that pays homage to all the FF games before it with references and callbacks but stands entirely on its own merit. PC version will only make it more popular

That's what I'm waiting for. Not spending $50 for all 1.5 years later. Maybe squenix will realize they get better sales numbers if they release a complete game the first time. Totally would've got this at launch if that was the case, now I'll just wait longer

FF VII rebirth on the other hand made the side quests fun, which this game forgot to do. I enjoyed the game but the side quests felt like they were from a MMORPG

As someone who has played nearly every game since the first, I actually think they finally got the action combat right in this one. Wasn't a fan of XV. Additionally the story was pretty good on this one. Similar to XII, a bit too serious a tone but good characters and story.

As for RPG... I'm not really sure what FF games you have played but they have never had extremely deep RPG leanings outside of rock paper scissor elements. This only having one player character makes it feel like less, but there's tons of strategy in combat, it's just different from what it used to be. You can tell that the brought talent from DMC and XIV, strengths and weaknesses. The Eikon fights are extremely impressive.

If you want more of the same, I imagine Rebirth is right up your alley and tbh probably mine too.
