You're going to need a wood chisel for that. That's not what this is. Cold chisels are for steel not wood.

My set is from Harbor Freight. Also paid around $15. HF's is listed as "Carbon Steel" and not "Chrome Vanadium", but I've had it for years and they've held up fine for years.

You're literally going to beat on these, no sense spending big money on them.

Typically, Chrome Vanadium is tougher. "Chrome Vanadium" is an alloy of carbon steel chromium and vanadium. Lots of factors go into the specific manufacturing of the alloy such as the ratio of carbon chrome and vanadium and any heat treatments performed by the manufacturer to name a few. When someone makes a steel widget like chisels or hammers or screwdrivers the manufacturer is trying to find a balance in the material between being "soft" enough to give a little bit and hard enough to perform whatever the intended task is.

i've been beating on my HF set for years, they are fine. if they haven't bent or broken by now, i doubt they ever will.
