PERFECT farkING TIMING! Was about to buy used earlier. Thanks OP!
Perfect timing is right. I've been piecing together my home theater and needed a solid 9.2 receiver. Was contemplating this vs the RZ50. For my purposes the RZ50 is overkill and the 7100 is much less in price. Thanks OP! Purchased!

Me too. The RZ-50. That's an amazing Amp though and only regret that I bought during the AVR scarcity back in early 2022 for $1200 and thought that was a great deal back then. However, I didn't hook it up till late 2023 sticking with my old Yamaha Avantage receiver thinking I was okay till I had time to hook up the Onkyo. When I finally did, oh man, I was really missing out all that time. The sound is so much crisper, clearer and with more body. I was always skeptical that an AVR would make such a difference but in this case it does, and I haven't even dialed it in as yet. I just added 2 more Atmos speakers to my existing 5.2.2 to make it a 5.2.4 but added so much more life to my front 3 speakers as well. I suspect, based on the specs of this 7100, it would have done the same at now half the price.

For those who can take advantage of this deal I envy you, but I love my RZ-50, especially since I've now gone 11 channels using the pre-outs. Not sure if the extra 20 watts per channel really make that much of a difference.
It was most likely because of the much better RC(Dirac Live) which this has the same one.

BTW based on what you said you're only using 9 channels, sub(s) usually isn't included since it's often self powered.

I added two surrounds to make it a 7.2.4 system by using the RZ-50 pre-outs to add an external Amp to power the extra 2 channels.

As I said, still playing around with the system and now comparing what I have with Samsung's Q990C 22 speakers soundbar system and I must say the Samsung is coming close to this Onkyo powered Klipsch Reference Premier system, especially at the recent Slickdeals $700 price. Not saying it matches a full AVR system, but at that price and mid to smaller size room, and wireless speakers, it does make you pause.
Sorry I went by what you did say:
"I just added 2 more Atmos speakers to my existing 5.2.2 to make it a 5.2.4"

I get sound is subjective but that soundbar coming close, there is something definitely amiss!

A properly implemented 7.2.4 traditional setup in no way should be close!
Especially when often a soundbar plays streamed content which is a major drop off in quality also.

A soundbar isn't even designed to compete with a traditional setup!

Why it is not giving free 2-day shipping, it is only showing free ground shipping. Is there a way to get 2-day shipping free, because more time the receiver spends with UPS/FedEx is more opportunity for things to go wrong. At the final checkout it says this item does not qualify for free 2-day shipping.

I have this with JBL studio speakers that go on sale. Lovely. I use direct audio. Feel like Dirac lowers bass
So are you happy with the set up? I have older JBLs that have been running Onkyos, but my latest receiver just lost the power to the subwoofer. Debating if I should replace the receiver with this Onkyo.

Good luck with those HDMI issues that Onkyo refuses to address.

Double check your settings prior to running Dirac.
Dirac Live does not offer their sub/bass management RC(DLBC).

Best speakers for you are determined by you, there are no universal best speakers for this or any other receiver.

Any advantage to this over the pioneer elite lx505. Assuming no need for the pre outs on the 505?

Are you talking about the HDMI board issues on the 2010-2012 Onkyo models?

I believe the x305 is the one that compares to this one. I just bought the x505 as there were some benefits over this one that made it seem worth the extra $100. I can't recall off the top of my head but if you do a comparison the x505 is a stronger receiver, for me at least
