No sir. The next lineup for AMDs desktop space is the 9000 series. It's due 2h 2024. Maybe soon.... see article.

The 8000 series seems to be dedicated to their APUs.

The X870E is the same as the X670E, just with USB4 support and *maybe* 10Gb network. No? And if I'm reading correctly, the Ryzen 9000 series will work the same on the 600 series AM5 chips, but might require a BIOS upgrade.

You need a high end cooler to keep this one in check, it gets hot as hell.
You just need to undervolt it, takes literally 3 minutes to do.

Running my 7700x and 5800x on a middling Deepcool hsf, under heavy gaming load it doesn't go above 75-76C.

I was just about to say this, easy to undervolt using a simple YouTube tutorial. Been using this chip for years now (primarily gaming) with curve optimizer undervolt settings and is holding up great.

For anyone looking for an AM4 chip for gaming around this price point, look at the 5600X3D instead.

I wouldn't say that. It's not "buy now, think later" value by any stretch, but it's not bad either.
The 5700x has been as low as $170, if memory serves, and the 5800x has been sub $200 before. I'm not sure how much lower these chips are going to go before stock runs out, to be honest. Or maybe AMD will continue producing them as long as people keep buying them.
Either way, the 5800x3d is like $100 more, so this chip at $190 really isn't terrible value considering it's still very solid in games.

Picked in up for $189 earlier today from Amazon.

I have an older AM4 system running Ryzen 5 1600 that I'm looking to get to Win11. 5800X is overkill for sure, but the price point makes sense for what is received.

I bought this when it was new and it's never done me wrong, but that said you should really look for the 5800x3d on sale instead. It's better than many current gen cpus while being heavily discounted. This advice is most applicable to those already on a last gen motherboard or those where budget is the more important than being on a current gen motherboard and upgrading your CPU every 1-2 years like some people do

Is something like a Noctua NH-U12A sufficient?

It's $100 more. Not worth it. Would pick up an i7 bundle from microcenter first.

I get that. My point was it will be two gens behind soon at they will be discounting the 7700x to close to this price. I'm not saying this is a bad chip. it will still be competitive. they need to do more to move inventory.
I have a 2600 Ryzen so I'm running old gen mobo should I just go 5600x or 5700x?

I would verify that you have a firmware update for your motherboard that supports the 5000 series. They should all support it but not all of them do in reality.

If you game a lot I'd look at the 5600x3D chip. At 240 it's going to give you 10ish percent better fps in many games 0-15% average over the 5800x. If you compare dollar for fps given, this deal wins. Better value for the money. 180 is a great deal.

For all other uses this price for the 5800x is worth it compared to the rest (5600 or 5700). it's a great value at this price.

Very bad deal considering Intel 12th gen is cheaper now. 12700k was $174 a week ago on Amazon.

at $168, I would recommend the 5700x over the 5800x.
at 65w it's almost the same performance as the 105w 5800x.
if you one click overclock, I got better performance than the 5800x while still under the stock TDP of 105w for the 5800x.
