feel like there will be mega tons of AM4 CPU sales from now till the rest of year.
Reposting a slight edit of my comment from the Newegg thread:
Good deal but if you're looking for an AM4 upgrade for gaming purposes you're better off opting for the 5700X3D as the 3D cache usually results in higher average FPS and better 1% lows. 5800X will beat it slightly in productivity tasks. 5700X3D price has been coming down and you can usually find it on AliExpress for around $150 if you want to take on the small risk of being without a consumer warranty and don't need the stock cooler.
You clearly don't know what you are talking about I have 5800X, 5950X, 7700X and 7950X all running fantastic on good air coolers and temps are fine.

If I'm running a 3700x, would this be enough of an upgrade to justify at this price?

Will be doing this swap soon. Seems like a good upgrade at this price if hanging onto am4 for the next few years

this is a really good price... i'm trying to justify not upgrading a 5600x or my dad's 3800x. Plus, Ryzen 9xxx is out, so it's probably not worth pumping money into anything DDR4 now...

not an expert but since they are both AM4, you should be able to reuse everything from the 2700x build - including the cpu cooler.

I am running 7900X, and also got 8600G, 5800x, but I had to buy this one since the price was so cheap.
wonder if I can upgrade HP Pavilion TP01-0066 or 580-137c with this 5800X, it would be great....

I upgraded from 2700x to 5900x, if you have the prism cooler from 2700x, it'll suffice, mostly. Keep in mind that 5800x and 5900x run hotter than 2700x. I had to swap out the cooler due to it constantly running at higher speed to cool my 5900x and can get pretty loud. I'd recommend trying it out with your cooler first, worst case is shelling out another $30-40 for a more efficient cooler later.

Maybe have to make an bios update depending on the board/chipset.

Thanks in that case I'll wait for 5700x3d or 5900x. I heard you have to undervolt these chips to run cooler . Might wait for new platform build.
