I have two of these and a bunch of their smart hose timers. I have had them for about 6 years. Initially they were great and I didn't have any issues, but two years ago they started skipping watering, it was like the smart watering was turned on even though I made sure it wasn't and they were set to a fixed schedule. They would double water some sections and completely skip others for days. Resetting them didn't fix it. One of them got set to a 19 year rain delay. I had to constantly monitor them to make sure they actually watered my plants. Since it was all of them acting up and they worked fine initially I assume its orbits cloud integration that is causing them to not work right. I didn't notice as many issues this past year as when they first went crazy. But I don't trust these enough to recommend them.

You don't have to worry about a dumb schedule based timer setting a 19 year rain delay.

For the folks that care, this does not appear to be controllable via Home Assistant: https://github.com/sebr/bhyve-home-assistant

The transformer on mine blew up up in the middle of summer in florida. Couldnt wait for warratny which if you google is evidently trash.

Went with rachio and the app and weather sensing is just SO MUCH better then bhyve. My lawn has never looked better after I switched to Rachio.

This happened to me a few months ago. Smart watering was fine and then just decided there were no future waterings. I tried adjusting schedules, drought settings, and not one change. Finally switched to manual scheduled watering to at least get it to work. Prior to this, network setup had always been a headache. I set up a separate 2.4GHz ssid for it, it still wasn't happy. I reset it, created another brand new network, went to connect and it somehow connected to the previous even though I set it up for the new network.

Replaced it with a Rachio 3 a couple of weeks ago and it's magnitudes better in terms of interface, features and so far reliable.

According to the model number on the install manual, it shows it's a 57946-50 rA. I'm guessing that 57946 is the same as the 6 zone that they show being tested, just with more zones, but I don't have either to confirm. Home Assistant compatibility is a must for me

Good catch, I just looked at the model number HD stated. And agree 100%, "smart" doesn't mean squat without HA integration.

They've always been annoyingly buggy at best, but it seemed like an app to server issue until last year when it would take 5 tries to get it to start watering, aka force quitting and opening the app again over and over in hopes that it'd start working. I replaced mine with a Rachio because the Orbit got so bad.

And not on clearance at any of the six stores here.

Had mine for over 4 years; worked great for a couple years, but there was definitely something funky going on with the app last year, with issues munkle described. Things seem to have gotten much better recently (maybe app was updated?). Nevertheless I bought the Raccio 3 a few days ago on the Costco deal, just in case a quick replacement is necessary.

There would be one day that day they shut down the service, the device becomes paperweight... Like Skydrop smart sprinkler system, and many others

I've had the 6 zone version on 2 different properties for over 10 years or around when they first came out and have never had one issue with the unit themselves. Every once in a while, they would go offline because of internet service issues, but even then, they would still run the programmed schedule. I just wouldn't be able to control it remotely without going and setting up the connection again. I also remember the 6 zone unit costing around $50, I'm not sure when it went up to $118???!!!

This one you can program on the device itself, doesn't need the external service to function. So if they do shut down you can still make changes to the schedule on the device itself. The newer ones however have no easy way of programming it with out the app.

The Orbit App is terrible. Don't waste your time with this. Spend the extra and get a Rachio 3. You'll know you made the right decision when you use it
