Got mine from the last sale, it's worth it. Amazing range, signal strength, and incredible amount of configuration options.

The big issue with mesh system is that, when you are connected to a node and move to the next nearest node, chances are that you are still connected to the farthest node. With AXE16000 it offers excellent coverage and offers multi-gig ports.

is the coverage really boosted that much more? I always thought it didnt really matter since 2.4ghz has the longest coverage and the slowest speeds anyway.

I get this router has 2 10gb ports and a 2.5 port but for wifi does it really make that much difference?

Is it really though because I have the AC5300 and it is utter garbage even with Merlin

Depending on the setup if you change the mesh power level to <75%, it will better connect to the nearest node. When it transmits at 100%, that's when you tend to connect to the farthest node. I keep my Orbi 960 at 50% power level for 3 nodes to cover 3000sqft and backyard and it receives signal from the nearest node really well.
