This saw is the workhorse of the trim carpentry industry. (At least in the South East) Replacement parts are readily available, (for when you allow someone to borrow it and they cut your fence). Don't ask me how I know🤪.
The only thing I think it could improve on is dust ejection. The tube is so long, it tends to stop up unless you have a vacuum attached. The Kerf light is the best I've used and the saw can reproduce repeatable cuts time after time. You may have to adjust the saw initially after purchase, but it's not difficult.
I've owned mine over 4 years and it's still going strong with original belt and multiple houses trimmed. I don't use the compound adjustments much, I just bought the crown stops early on and never looked back. By the way, I paid more than this when I bought it and don't regret the purchase at all.

I bought the 779 model for $250 and added the light for $50. A 779 model transformed to a 780 for $300. Paid another $20 for an extra clamp which makes it convenient for holding long pieces. The roller stand cost me another $110..
They have different internal parts. I've owned both and you can absolutely tell how much better the build quality is vs the 779. The motor being the biggest difference.
I picked up the 779 on sale years ago and as a DIYer it is probably(i.e. definitely) overkill - but I don't regret it for a second. I've used it for so many little & big projects. It is such a reliable tool. Next to my impact driver and corded duster/blower it is my most used tool.
That being said - it weighs a metric sh*t-ton. So moving it around is pain - would def recommend getting the stand.

that motor doesn't make a difference for the average person
If yours breaks like mine did. I really hope there is a service center near you. It cost me $125 to ship it to them for replacement. Btw.. I consider myself an "average person" My 779 broke down in the middle of a deck build. Imagine yourself 2 hours deep into a deck install and having your miter saw shit the bed on you. Then add insult to injury… having to spend $125 to have it fixed. Then think to yourself.. if I only spent $200 more for the better motor/gearbox/belt I wouldn't be in this predicament. People … just spend the extra on the better built product. Otherwise you're just throwing your money away down the road.
