Too bad there is not an empty slot for an additional SSD. At least the RAM can be upgraded. Other than that, this is a pretty nice deal.

Honestly, this is a pretty good deal. Be warned though, as usual, HP cheaped out on the screen and put a 250 nits panel in it.

Just the fact it has 2 DIMM slots and *1* 8gb stick in there (leaving one open) tells you that you should go ahead and grab an additional 8gb stick for 16gb RAM total (DDR4, 3200Mhz). A surprising, but welcome, move by HP.

Looking at the Q&A section though, it's hard to tell if it supports charging the laptop over USB-C (via a dock, etc), so you should expect to use the included power brick unless someone else has first-hand experience.

64 GB DDR4-3200 has been $100 or even less lately. I'd consider grabbing that, and pocketing the 8 GB to add to a cheap 1x8GB mini PC later.

That is a good point re: 64gb... I guess I should have said "at minimum add another 8gb stick".

But, tacking on another ~$100 puts this build >$700.

It turns out Nvidia released it somewhere in early 2023 (I've only just heard of it but it is official), however it has a 96 bit instead of a 128 bit memory bus, so it's more of a sidegrade: more vram, narrower bus

Is this not dual lane capable? If so you'd want 2 of the same sized sticks

Summer Has Alots deals on 3050, especially from Dr.WajThis HP a good deal on upgradable 8gb ram as long as you know the limits for 1080p gaming and leave on desk most of the time. Low Bite LCD isn't an issue indoors, you always bring an LCD hood outdoors lol

The lowest I seen 3050 laptops is $580 on Newegg, $650 Amazon Prime Day. Worth a look to compare.

Anyone have a link to a compatible 8gig stick?

Anyone tried the screen? Little worried about the 250 nits.

I got this computer a few weeks back and added this RAM stick:

TEAMGROUP Elite DDR4 8GB Single 3200MHz PC4-25600 CL22 Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.2V SODIMM 260-Pin Laptop Notebook PC Computer Memory Module Ram Upgrade - TED48G3200C22-S01 https://a.co/d/a9Cabbv

The screen is OKAY but it's definitely annoying to use when I have my blinds open during mid-day. The speakers are also not very loud at all. In my opinion the volume level is more of an annoyance than the brightness of the screen.

Do you take the whole bottom of the laptop off? Every other time i've added RAM to a laptop there's been a little panel just to access the RAM.

Yes you do have to take the whole bottom off; it was like 8-10 screws and then a thin little pry bar to snap the clips open. Not too difficult but definitely not as easy as some laptops with the access door

Dr. Wajahat, can you please explain the difference between i5 vs ryzen 5 and i7 vs ryzen 7 in layman terms? I'm confused which one's better as I have never used a ryzen processor before. Appreciate it!
