No, they're finally being forced by the market to surrender their stubbornass price-fixing behavior that we tolerated for years (case example: you're calling it a "giveaway" instead of retribution).

BTW, this is a measly 11% off the maximum list price.
It's not the mobo makers, it's that there aren't enough PCIe lanes on the CPU. Unless you want to pay for workstation/server class stuff.
From third party Chinese sellers that run some risk of being counterfeit, refurbs, or used-- possibly with no warranty (unsure whether PNY has an "authorized" seller requirement)

If you don't mind waiting, the same SSD is cheaper on Newegg.

Memo to MB manufacturers : Please make new MB's capable of holding at least 8 M.2 NVME drives since I now have 12 TB of drives and nowhere to install them.
Note: volunteer recipients need not apply.

Here's a quad riser. Looks like you need a free PCIe 4.0 x16 slot on you mobo. Many times mobos only have a single x16 slot, which is intended for graphics. Others sometimes have a second x16 but it may be shared with other components (such as onboard m.2s or sound / network cards) so ymmv.

Does anyone know how the speeds would hold off on a 350 GB file copy?

It's got 2 GB of DRam

Is that the cache size?

Wouldn't you rather have 2-4 slots and reasonable, non-gouging pricing for 4-8TB SSDs? I sure would, but.....

I'd also like to see 16TB+ externals so we can finally put WD/Seagate hard drives to bed for good, but that's not going to happen either until they've relieved everyone of their last dollar. Too much money in selling $30 drives for $300... I mean what's better? Real progress or easy money? Wink

In the last 10 years hard drives went from 2-4TB to 16-20TB. In the same period SSDs went from 1-2 TB to 1-2TB. You can thank Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron for colluding to stall SSDs at that capacity and drives prices up to the moon.

Always good to hear the insights of all of the insiders in the industry. I've only been in the PC business for a littel over 30 years. Bought, built and sold around a half billion dollars in components and systems. Small regional system builder and computer store and you guys apparently know more than everyone. Seriously though you have no idea how small NET margins are in this business. Common sense is not required to post on slickdeals. If hardware was so profitable why are there less and less manufacturers, dealers, etc every year. It's 400 miles to the nearest Microcenter and I'm in the 3rd most populous State in the US. I'm one of the only hardware resellers in a 50 mile range from my store and a population of around 4 million in that radius. I can buy almost anything I need at Amazon, NewEgg, etc, etc for less that I can from the 5 multinational distributors. ASI, TD Synnex, Ingram, Ma Labs, & D&H. I needed 100 AMD 5600G processors for a client build. Best price to my door from distribution $130.54. Bought them from Amazon for $127 and 5% cash back on my Prime Amex. $120.65. Buying from Amazon put an an extra $1000 in my pocket. If there's a quantity limit of 5 of something. I have multiple accounts with most "etailers". So long story made short. We are cutting our inventory by 80%, cutting off sales of parts unless we are getting paid to install them, and selling full systems and servicing them.

That is why if you are going to run high-end NVMe get an Intel Z series chipset because it supports dedicated ones. I just got a asrock z690 for $130 that supports 3 NVMe, 2 at full x4 and one at x3 alongs w/ a full x16 pci5 slot and another x16.

I've been wanting to add more storage to my PS5 ever since I got it last year. The built-in 825GB just wasn't cutting it with all the big open world games I like to play. I saw this PNY 4TB SSD go on sale last week and decided to take the plunge.
When it arrived, installation was really easy. I just had to slide it into the expansion slot, put on the included heatsink, and screw it in place. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. Once I restarted my PS5, I had a ton of new space and could finally install all my old PS4 games without worrying about running out of room. The loading speeds also seemed a bit faster with some of my PS5 games installed on the new drive.
However, there were a couple downsides I noticed. First, the heatsink PNY includes is pretty big and prevents you from putting the side panel back on properly. It's not a huge deal but kind of annoying. Second, the actual read/write speeds I was getting were not quite as fast as the advertised 7500MB/s. More like 6300MB/s. Again, not a massive problem but a little misleading.
Overall though, for the amount of high-speed storage this SSD provides, I'm really happy with it as an upgrade for my PS5. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. If PNY could make the heatsink a bit more compact and push a firmware update to improve the speeds a bit, this would be a 5-star product. But as-is, I'd still highly recommend it to anyone looking to seriously expand their PS5 storage on a budget. The extra space and moderately faster load times make it worth it!
