Just a heads up to everyone that Seagate's exclusive deal with Microsoft has ended and Western Digital will soon be releasing expansion cards for the Xbox Series consoles.

Hopefully this will lead to even greater price cuts in the near future.

Same price at target and red card members get 60 days to return I believe. I'm thinking this is the way to go in case the western digital expansion card is released soon and prices fall further or the WD card is somehow superior.

EDIT: I had a $15 off $100 coupon in my target circle making it $128.25 with red card 5% !!

Good price but I would wait for the competition that Western Digital will bring. Still high in price at 149 for 1tb. Hoping this gets closer to 100.

Do you think there's anything unique about the underlying module? It's always artificially inflated based on the exclusive deal, the only thing you are paying extra for is profit margin.
I'd guess to fit in a 1" PCB it needs higher density flash modules which are more expensive.

You certainly can't find reasonably priced 2230 drives.

I'm buying WD on principle, not rewarding Seagate for gouging us for two years.

With this card can you play games from it or do they have to be moved directly onto the Xbox hard drive? Are there other cards that will work with it?
Yes, directly from it.

Are you comparing 4" NVMEs to the 1" drives the XBOX uses?

Still overpriced proprietary garbage, no reason this should cost this much.

Microsoft should have really designed the series s/X better. If Sony can implement the use of non-proprietary storage, I'm pretty sure Microsoft can too.

Is there any reason these couldn't be physically bigger? It would just stick out a bit more. A price I'd certainly be willing to pay for cheaper, bigger storage.

Nope, no good reason I can see. The single expansion slot on the back has a good amount of room between the power cord and hdmi port. Not to mention the unlimited horizontal space. It all comes down to money.

Maybe the price could be somewhat justified if there was more than 1 expansion port so you could have several of these, but you can't. So you're naturally incentivised to buy the biggest capacity. I'm resisting and sticking with a slow external hdd until i have enough native x/s titles to require a native expansion card.

Thanks for the heads up but I doubt they would charge less.

This card will let you play the game directly off of it. I'd still wait, but if you need the storage go for it.

Exactly. This $eagarbage drive is the equivalent of having to buy the useless Kinect at launch last gen. You'd think M$ would learn, but apparently there are still fools out there willing to pay $150 for a drive that should be $50 at most

Well I guess we will see. I would hazard a guess that the reason we are seeing sales right now of the "lowest price ever" is they are trying to dump stock of these before the competition rolls in.

Absolutely. I got in on a deal for Western digital black NVME drive for PS5 a while back that was cheaper than this sale, and that was two terabytes.
