However, most stuff you do on your phone is perfectly fine at ~200 Mbps offered by WiFi 5. You can certainly do what you like, but for many users we're already at the diminishing returns stage. There are exceptions like large families with multiple 4K streams going while others transfer large files for work, etc., but for basic browsing and streaming you probably won't notice much difference. You might even consider reducing your internet speed to save money every month instead of increasing your hardware cost to meet the fast internet speed you've been upsold by your ISP. Again, people have different needs or forms of amusement, so not knocking the Gigabit+ crowd or those who just like maxing out their speeds for the fun of it.

With Wifi 7 routers coming out, the 6 and 6e will be coming down in price, so now may not be the time to jump in.
But agreed, for the most part these internet connections are only getting used for speed tests.
