These suck.

Get a "sawyer" water filter instead. So much better.

Do some googling to see reviews and comparisons. People who go camping and need water all use Sawyer or similar (there's lots of other brands too), and basically nobody uses Lifestraw.

Do these things expire? Like after so long does it not work anymore, much like a refrigerator filter?

Filter goes out after ~1000 gallons. Check each type.

May be more types on Prime sale, I may pick up the LifeStraw Go Water Filter 22 oz Bottle for ~$20:

Their offical product product page says that it has an "unlimited shelf life." (https://lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw)

Their warranty is valid for 3 years however. (https://lifestraw.com/pages/returns)
Other sources online recommend using it within 3-5 years because they claim the filtering components of the straw are prone to degradation over time from moisture.

I haven't gone hiking in a while because of the heatwaves but I'm pretty sure I'll go a couple times within the next 3 years so I sorta want to buy this 😶

My uncle Ricky says you can take a dump in a toilet bowl, let it sit for a week, and use this straw to drain the bowl and "it will taste just as good if not better than Dasani or that fancy bottled water nephew." Is that true?

I bought one in 2014 and have probably used it for less than 1 gallon of water.

If I actually want to use it again, I should probably get a new one.

lol im not sure I'd take his word on that one.

These are also 4 for $40 if your Costco still has them.

Yeah, a lot of the good reviews on amazon are people looking at the unopened package saying how cool it is lol.

No, partly because the olfactory senses include taste and smell, and smell overrides taste in our brains, so if you put grapes in your mouth and smell strawberry ice cream at the same time, the grapes will taste like strawberry.

So, put anything in your mouth, including a lifestraw, and get a whiff of a bucket of fetid feces, and you're going to taste crap just like it was in your mouth.

Aside from that, these filters are designed to make it safe to drink water from a stream with crap and dead animals somewhere in it, but you probably don't want to be in a stinky spot when you bust this filter out... the water coming through it shouldn't stink, but the filter won't cover your nose... lol

Meh. And I'm guessing this is a paid ad.

Better option:
